United Way. I appreciate how they collect $ and distribute it to many different needy charities as opposed to one cause.
But I also donate to other specific charities such as St.Jude, the ASPCA and my local police and volunteer ambulance force.

My dad passed away of Alzheimers 7 months ago My family and friends raise money and walked in the memory walk for the past 2 yrs and plan on always doing this.
So Sorry
I watched my grandfather go through and pass away from this terrible, terrible disease. It is truly heartwrenching and affects everyone that is involved. This is definitly my Charity of Choice.
Thanks! Yes -it really is a horrible horrible desease to watch a loved one go through. I would not wish this upon anyone.

I was diagnosed at age 9 with LUPUS so for our wedding favor we donated to them. We walk every year to raise money for research as well.
My maternal grandmother passed in 1978 from complications of Lupus - actually, it was a cerebral hemhorrage that actually killed her. She left behind 4 kids. My mom was the oldest, at age 17, and the youngest was 11.
I'm so sorry to hear that...

Re: Whats your Charity of Choice?
Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. It's the charity we donated to as our 'favor' at our wedding. My nephew was diagnosed with, and had his eye removed due to, retinoblastoma, a rare form of cancer found in young children. He was four at the time and thank God, is 7 now and doing very well.
Breast Cancer Research Foundation. My paternal grandmother died of breast cancer; my maternal grandmother had a masectomy due to breast cancer; and my maternal aunt had a lumpectomy due to breast cancer.
I'm big into the research foundations more than the others, trying to look to the future, I suppose.
ETA: I've also donated to Doctors without Borders on several occasions, often in response to natural disasters in other countries.

Re: Whats your Charity of Choice?
National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
My sister was diagnosed with MS when she was 20 (5 years ago).
Watching her struggle to get the meds she needs and the treatment she needs without issues from the insurance companies has been aggravating!!
And when she has relapses and can't walk or use her left arm it breaks my heart. I hope that they find a cure soon because she's got a very aggressive strain and she will probably wind up in a wheel chair by the time she's 30 and unable to care for herself by the time she's 40.

I lost my dad to a stroke 9 years ago this month. Its something you never get over. We are blessed to have had such wonderful parents, for whatever short time they were here.

Angel Foundation for Stony Brook University Hospital NICU...it was founded by parents who's child passed away due to prematurity. The goal is the educate parents about Neo Natal Instesvie Care Unit...and to be there for parents of NICU babies for emotional support through a very tough time
