I’m sure my opinion is not the popular one but I’m still wondering what anyone else thinks.

I’m ok with giving stimulus checks to anyone who may have lost income so basically anyone on unemployment. What I am not ok with giving money to certain people when they have lost no income.
To be honest it really isn’t fair/right. IMO either you give money to everyone despite how much they make or you give it to no one (except if you actually lost income).

I don’t see how it’s fair to a person who makes only $1000 or even $10000over the limit to not qualify for it.

In the long run I would love to know how we are paying for all of this and we really shouldn’t keep sending money out.

Yeah I don't need it. I never lost a penny during this whole year. Why do I need a check from the govt? For what?
Give it to those who need it and are hurting.

I think everyone should have been receiving monthly payments this entire time. It helps stimulate the economy.

The government wants to give me free money fine as long as everyone gets it no matter what they make BUT Where would the money come from?

I'm stimulating it just fine without their 2K or whatever they want to send me. Trust me.
What they send me goes in the bank- I don't use it to stimulate anything since it's not really needed. We just put it in the bank and it sits there

You can Google where it comes from. It’s been posted before & discussed here.

I guess there has to be a cutoff somewhere and someone will feel slighted.

I get the point on stimulus checks, it's good to try and get money flowing through the economy again especially when times are tight, but there was one thing I thought was kind of unnecessary. This might have already been taken out but they were going to give checks to dependents under 17 which IMO, is a little much. In most cases, children don't contribute to the household finances so unless they are filing a W2, I am not sure why they would be sending check to kids.

Ultimately, I won't get too ruffled about any of it. I know there are people who could really use this check so I won't begrudge anyone.

Unless someone files for unemployment, and not everyone has, there is no way for the government to know if someone had a loss of income. Bear in mind, people might have kept their jobs but took a major pay cut so technically, it's a loss of income.

I don't get the check regardless but I certainly won't begrudge those that could really use this money. We have to do something to keep people afloat and keep the economy churning.

Then why not make it where you have to apply for it. Why does it have to be a rush out.
Can’t be that hard to put up a site to have people fill it out a form that says we lost income.

Thier should be no cap limit either. If someone make $250000 a year and they lost income why shouldn’t they get it? Cause That’s too much? What if their lifestyle requires that income and now they don’t have enough. They should be getting a stimulus payment also.

To your first paragraph - it was a complete disaster when people were trying to file for unemployment on a website. Website kept crashing, people were trying at all hours.

The easiest method is direct payment.

We got the stimulus, because, we are poor (poor by LI standards IMO) BUT my oldest did not get it. The one that is unemployed.
While we still worked through all of this, it was nice to get something and we actually helped our youngest go through drivers ed and is now saving for a car with part of that money.
The oldest did their own taxes this year so will get it, which will help with education expenses and we will most likely take most of it to help out the youngest so they won’t get a clunker.

OMG yes. I helped out my child and it took me a week to get through. If they didn’t have school and I knew how much time it took I would have made them do it. It was easier as I am by a phone and computer during the week all day.

I do think applying for anything through the government is usually a disaster. lol

I do somewhat agree with you other comment as loss of income is loss of income. But my guess is that the expectation for high income earners is that they have other monies (savings, investments etc) outside of their salary to get them through when tough times hit.

Re: What’s your take in these stimulus checks?

I didn’t work all last year because of Covid. A lot of the jobs I had in the pipeline in Q1 were removed or the company paused Hiring. However, because they go by 2019, I don’t get any stimulus. So people who lost income in 2020 and really need it will not get it because they worked and had a good year in 2019. That’s terrible.

Now my husband who has not stopped working (thank god) at all, qualifies. Chat Icon

I just don’t think it’s helping as much as it should or they think it does.

I believe the issue is time. Developing a website, hosting the site, workers to main the website, the application process, etc...all take way too much time. The US Gov. needs to utilize systems that are readily available.
The stimulus checks are really a tax credit that is beling advanced so they are using the IRS as a way to distribute the monies. The IRS is also tracking those who are getting the credit.
If someone lost income that was over the cap, they still get the stimulus but as a tax credit when they file for the year in which they lost income.
The income thresholds are easy-to-implement ceilings.
The stimulus checks for individuals are also a VERY small part of this bill. There is only so much manpower to go around hence using the tax filing system already in place.

I agree. But there is no process in place to show who actually needs it. So you have to look at the other side of the coin ....those who don’t need it will in turn spend it by hiring someone who lost income during covid, they will spend it locally, etc.... it all trickles down and does what it should do....stimulates the economy.

Those who don’t ‘need’ it aren’t going to put it in the bank and do nothing, they are going to spend it thus stimulating the economy.

Not necessarily- ours went in the bank. As will this one if we get it. I don't just spend money that comes to me for no reason. If I get extra money, or a tax return etc- I put it in the bank

I don’t think that’s true. If the cap limits is $150000 and you made 165000 this year you are saying they get a tax credit even though they made $1650000 ?
If they are then I may be a little more ok with it but I’m pretty sure that’s not the case

That’s awesome. I wish I could do that but there is always something that needs to be fixed or something comes up. I think part of it we did put aside for our vacation that will probably get cancelled anyway :(
