When did everyone get so angry ?

Was I living in a bubble most of my life or do people just seem more angry and impatient then ever?
MInd you I still know and meet many kind and genuine people but far too many grumps!

I totally feel ya!!! It seems like people are more inclined to jump down your throat than to say hi these days.

I had this conversation at work today, it feels like everyone thinks they are entitled to compensation, and they are just entitled to have everything they want RIGHT NOW!! Its sad sometimes.

well, from a sociological perspective, there is more anger becuase there is more stress in life these days. work hours have gotten longer over the last few decades, and income is not keeping pace with that... so we're working longer and harder for less.... add in increasing unemployment and you have a situation.....

I find most people that start off angry if you are nice to them in return they leave a little bit nicer.

I've noticed this recently and mentioned it to a couple of people - my theory is that people are so angry and stressed about the economy that it's showing in their day to day activities. I mean, just on the subways I've been encountering MORE and more impatient, rude, nasty people in the last couple of months, and at work a lot of people seem less nice too.

you know what?
they didn't realize you only live once yet.. and that it pays to be nice and makes you feel good.
I now feel bad for people who harbor so much anger.

Kill them with kindness...
some are just too ignorant and cannot help it.
Its funny...right after 9-11 everyone was soooooooooo nice...now they all forgot.
Sad really.

This is dead on. I feel like society's increased tolerance and acceptance of the anger and aggression teaches people that its ok to indulge in the behavior and the horrible treatment of others.

I think in general people are angrier because we're living in stressful times..
on here, I don't see any more b*tch than I normally see.

Example the other night after work I was really in a massive amount of pain due to a sinus infection. So I tell hubby that I am running up to the drugstore on my corner.
Along the way adjacent to the walgreens entrance lay a man who had just been hit by a car.If you recall it was snowing sat. So any way I run into the walgreens and tell them to call 911 that a man was hit by a car and in a very dangerous spot.
Do you know the guy being rung up at register shot me a nasty look(DH SAID HE PROB. THE ONE THAT HIT HIM) and the people that worked there reacted as if I asked to borrow a pen.
Thank God the fire station is also right there and they went right into action.
I was a little shocked with some of the reactions of these people. Imagine if you were lieing in the middle of the road during a snow storm and people were to busy or inconveninced to help.
Allright I am done venting. Time to move on.Life is good

I find that I am seeing more and more unhappiness in people these days....smile, you're alive and breathing!

For me it's the pace of living here. There's so many people and only so many places to go - herding in & out of stores, trains, penn station. I am starting to feel like Tom Hanks in the beginning of Joe vs. the Volcao.

Then add that common courtesy seems to have fallen to the wayside where situations like this are not uncommon and even justified.

I haven't noticed it in face to face dealings with the public. I have noticed it in the way people are driving. Charleston used to be a pretty friendly place to drive, people letting other drivers turn, merge, etc. But now...whew! Some of the guys in their big and mighty trucks are getting really nasty. I had a guy trying to eat my bumper doing 80 on the highway last week.

When I worked in a supermarket and people would get angry about the lines or prices or how I packed their bags I would always smile sweetly and say "Well, I hope this is the worst thing that happens to you all day!"



I try to remember it myself when someone cuts me off or I feel myself losing control - how insignificant it really is!

I understand and feel the same way a lot of the time. What ever happened to treating others the way you want to be treated? And like others have said, the total sense of entitlement drives me crazy.

I also think we have this sense of entitlement because we've never truly SUFFERED.

Think about it... my parents were raised by people who were raised during the depression... so when my parent's were growing up-- their parents had an attitude like:
'BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE...'

they raised us in a *better* economical time, and because they had to be happy with what THEY had, they wanted to give US better...

So we were raised with more... and we want more....

it's a cycle... really. We don't know how to suffer.
