Re: when did you face the car seat forward?
We plan to do this in the next couple of weeks. DS will be 15 months.
That's based on the advice of the carseat guy in Mineola from the Nassau Safety Traffic Board.
The MINIMUM is 1 year and 20 Lbs. DS was 25 Lbs at 12 months yet the carseat guy told us that it was still better to wait a bit longer until he was 15 months to switch.
In any cases, he told me that 30 Lbs is the max for rear facing. Which I did not know!

It's whatever the seat limit, yours probably went up to 30lbs. Some seats go up to 35 RF.

Re: when did you face the car seat forward?
I've been reading alot of things that tell you to wait as long as you can. DD is small so I am going to wait until her feet reach the seat and then turn it around.

Re: when did you face the car seat forward?
Your daughter has to be at least 20 pds. my daughter is going on 13 months and she is only 17 1/2 pds so she has a long time before foward facing.. the rear facing is the safest

Re: when did you face the car seat forward?
She will be rear facing until her feet hit the seat, or she hits the max seat weight allowance for RF!

They have to be 1 year and atleast 20 pounds my Dr. said they made them forward facing for a reason at that age and usually it's because they can sustain broken legs if your in an accident if they are rear facing for more than 1 year!!!!
I get so angry when I hear about professionals giving out completely inaccurate and potentially dangerous information..... I've been researching this for 5 years now. I've seen several articles that have said there has NEVER been a case of broken legs with a tall child being rear facing.
Even if there was.... what option would you prefer? A broken leg that will heal in a few weeks, or a broken neck, spine, or worse.....
12 months and 20 lbs is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM. For me, the absolute minimum for my DC's life and safety isn't enough.... DD was around 18 months or so, I think. I know it was well past the 12 month minimum.

Re: when did you face the car seat forward?
We did it right before 14 months. He's so tall and was starting to get all cranky back there. When we moved it - driving became a whole new enjoyable experience again. We wanted to wait until 15 months but the little boss man wasn't having that.

When we had our convertible installed the car seat guy in Mineola said to keep her rear facing until at least 15 months if not much longer (he said touching the seat in front is not a criteria for switching but that if they are really cramped sitting indian style or knees all the way up) - he said that it is better to have a broken leg than turn her around and have a broken spine or worse.
