when did you switch to variable flow nipples (or level 2)?
DS is 7 weeks old and it takes forever for him to drink his bottle sometimes. i have a whole bunch of variable flow nipples but he seems to be scared by how fast they come out. he does drink with it though.
what age did you switch levels? is 7 weeks too early?

I think 7 weeks is too early. When DS was about 7 weeks, it would take around 40 minutes and we would burp twice. I just switched to level 2 around 5 months.

Switched to Level 2 at about 4 1/2 months when he was collapsing the nipple from sucking so hard and it was taking 30-45 minutes to get 6 oz. in him.

My DD is almost 7 months and still will not take the Stage 2 (she chokes). We first tried at about 3 1/2 months or so.

Re: when did you switch to variable flow nipples (or level 2)?
We had to switch to level 2 pretty early on, 7 or 8 weeks. But i would absolutely not do variable flow at 7 weeks - the variable is between 2 and 3. That is way way way too fast for such a young baby IMO. I'd invest in the straight level II's. Try it on a bottle or two and see how it goes.

oh i didn't realize that--someone gave me these nipples and i thought they were between 1 and 2. thanks for the info!
he is totally collapsing the level 1 nipples and it takes him 30-40 minutes most times to drink 4 ounces. he's been collapsing the nipples for a few weeks now. we use born free bottles if that makes any difference.

Re: when did you switch to variable flow nipples (or level 2)?
We switched DS pretty early, I think around 8 weeks or so. The slow flow ones were giving him problems with gas, etc. so we spoke to his doctor and switched. He was much happier and his gas issues disappeared.
