Re: When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
Is there a big difference now between high back booster and just the seat one? My Son is 6.5 and we just moved him from a high back booster to just the seat one because in my new car he said it was not comfortable for him.
Thoughts?

When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
My twins moved from a five pt harness to a high back booster at the beginning of this school year. They outgrew the 5 pt harness seats by height. They are currently 6 and in kindergarten. my youngest is 4.5 and we are booster training him. He is still in a 5pt harness most of the time but for short trips when the twins are at school he sits in one of their boosters. He hasn't outgrown his 5 pt harness yet but has about an inch left on height. So maybe by next school year he will be in the booster full time. I plan on keeping them in high back boosters until I no longer can and then a backless until they no longer need it.

When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
I moved my now 7 year old DS to a high back booster at the start of first grade. I did it because he had outgrown the weight requirement for latch and I was going to be using the seatbelt anyway - I felt it was more secure using the latch to keep the seat in place and the seatbelt.
Many of his friends don't use boosters and I've seen some second graders sitting in the front seat even!
ETA: He has a low back booster in my DH's car since he usually just takes him to and from school in it. The high back is in my car where we take longer distances. 5 year old DS 2 is still in a 5 pt harness.

DS is 6 and is in a 5 point harness and he will stay there for at least another 4-5 years. We will start using the seat belt eventually, but for now the harness is working fine.
I never understood why parents are in a rush to have their kids out of the seats. I picked up one of DS's friends one time and he told me that he didn't need to sit in a booster anymore, that thye just use the seat belts in their car. Well, I told him in our car every kid under 10 is in a seat, so hop on into the other booster (DD's seat).
Maybe the parents should read this article. Everyone should.
Mom warns about booster seats after daughter nearly cut in half
ugh,
It is just not worth it. Why take them out of it? I know someone else that uses a booster, but allows their child to just use the top part of the harness to buckle up, not the bottom part, because 'it bothers her'. Plus, the straps are all twisted up. I told them that is crazy!! and I just got an eye roll about being overprotective. I try to avoid having my son in the car with them unless he is strapped the right way.

Laziness. It's a pain in the ass to buckle them into that harness. I admit it really is. In and out when you are running errands- it becomes annoying. But this is your precious child's life we are talking about. People really blow my mind. They really do

Re: When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
My 8.5 year old 3rd grader is still in a low back booster. He's close to ready to be out of it but he doesn't complain so I keep him in it for the extra height.

I can't even imagine having a 9th grader in a booster.
My DD is in 4th grade, and just a couple of months ago, I took her out of the no back booster. Many of her friends were also in booster seats up until this year.
I can't even tell you how many 3, 4, 5th graders I see in the front seat when I'm in the drop off lane. I guess their parents don't GAS about them. Yes that is harsh, but I would never let my kids sit in the front seat at that age. There is absolutely no need.
Well... I'm always given the stink eye, but when you have 3 row seating, with 2 younger kids... I'd have DS pop out the front passenger side after unbuckling his 5 point harness so he wouldn't climb over his younger sisters. Looks can deceive!!!
That being said, DD had her 5 PT harness loose (she's the size of a 1st grader though she's not yet in K), and she hit the seat in front of her when I stopped short due to a person going the wrong way. I'm all about overprotection.

When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
I don't give a s hit how embarrassed my kids are, they'll be in the appropriate car seat/booster seat for their height and weight. All three of mine are in 5 pt harness convertibles and they are 6,6 and almost 5. There's a reason why they have these recommendations and I never understand why people think they know better or choose to go against it.

Because it's "embarrassing" and all the other kids are not in boosters anymore. God FORBID we should not be like everyone else. They might be ostracized from the lunch table in 1st grade.

Yeah that's not what is happening here. I see them sitting in the front seat. Even in our K-2 school I would see the same thing.

Idk but my son was able to buck himself in at 6 yrs old. I would just pull to tighten. He even knew to raise the middle part to his chest.

Re: When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
One of my friends moved her 7 year old into a booster too early. Her daughter was on the weight limit edge and so the mom moved her up. They were in a car accident and she is now permanently paralyzed from the neck down and has to breathe through a ventilator.
My kids are small for their age so they may go to high school in a booster, if necessary.

Re: When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
my 6.5 year old son is in a 5 pt harness still. Our seat goes up to 80 pounds and 52 inches.. He is 46 pounds and 49 inches tall right now.. so I will move him ONLY when he reaches the limit.. which I'm thinking will be in another year or less.
He finally just asked about going into a booster the other day because all of his friends are in them. I said this is the safest thing for you and I dont care what your friends do!!! I dont know why everyone is always in such a rush to move them to unsafe seating!!!!

Re: When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
My DD will be 8 next month and she still sits in a high back booster. She's barely 54 pounds and not even 46 inches tall so I can't see moving her anytime soon.
I honestly think the high back is more comfortable for her. On long car rides she falls asleep and the head rest keeps her from falling forward.

Re: When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
We just took my 5 year old from a 5-point harness to a high backed booster. My 7 year old is still in a high backed booster and will be for a while. Both are on the smaller side. Safety first and they don't complain about it.

When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
My daughter is almost 6 and in a 5pt harness. She's pretty average (if not a bit big) for her age. She's still 10lbs from the limit and I intend to keep her in it until she reaches it!

Re: When did you take your kid out of the booster seat?
My seat has a harness limit to 65 lbs which she will not reach until shes a teen at this rate. LOL She will hit the height limit first- 49 inches. She's about 46 inches now I think and almost 7 years old. She will stay harnessed until.she hits that height limit and then I will convert it to a high back booster.

My son was 9 when he reached the height and weight limits so he was in a HBB until then. My 7 year old dd is still in her high back booster.
