When did your DC start using the pacifier? Anyone able to not use a pacifier at all?
I think DS#1 used a pacifier always and it was really difficult to take his binky away around 20 months.
DS#2 was not given a pacifier when he was born and seems to be doing fine without one. I'm wondering if we can do it without giving him a pacifier at all.

Emma never took to them - we tried - but she didn't like them. She's now 22 months and is fine without it!

Same for my girls. We tried pacis with both and neither one wanted anything to do with them.

DS never took to them. He'd occassionally use one at grandma's but other than that, nope

Neither of my boys liked the pacifier. We tried different kinds. They spit them all out. I was told by my Mom that I was the same way.
One is 3, and the other is almost a year old. They both started STTN at around 9 weeks, and are great nappers/sleepers to this day, so they learned to soothe themselves without one.

DD never took a paci, I tried several after realizing she had a strong sucking reflex. At 4mos she started sucking two fingers.

dd wont take 1 for more than a few mins @ a time if she'll take 1 @ all. she loves my pinky though......

I tried every single brand of Paci's with my DD....she wanted NOTHING to do with them...she just wanted my boobs  It was exhausting and painful...and if you can get your DC on a paci...do it!

DS used t a few times but never really took to it. He did fine without it anyway so we didnt push. My Mom on the other hand when she came around was basically forcing him to use it and he would get so upset - why I dont know bc he was good from day 1
Honestly, im so glad he didnt want one bc he kearned how to soothe himself!

I've tried several different kinds, but DD is not into them. I know I'll be glad that this is one habit I won't have to break later, but I feel like she uses me as a pacifier sometimes, so I often wish she'd take one.

DD started with one around 6 weeks. We actually gave it to her because we read that it's one of the long list of "possible ways to help prevent SIDS" and of course as first-time parents, we'd do anything we can, even though no one really has any idea what "works" or doesn't. But we figured it was worth a try.
It took about 2 weeks for her to get used to using it. Then I found the wubbanub dolls (they're a soothie pacifier attached to little beanie dolls) and she LOVES them. She can sometimes put the paci back in her mouth herself, which is cool, but she also just loves holding the dolls.
Neither me nor my brother ever were given a pacifier growing up, and we both still bite our nails. :-/ I will do ANYTHING to try to prevent her from going down that road. May still happen, of course, but I'm trying my best.

DS had the hospital ones. i tried a few times once we got him home. he never cared for it. so i stopped the first week we were home and never looked back :)

We gave DS a paci from day 1.. now at 4 months, he wants no part of it. He will only take it if he is 2 seconds away from falling asleep, falls asleep, then spits it out.

DS had no interest in it, but as soon as he started sucking his thumb around 1m, I started pushing it .. for good or bad, he finally took to it at 3m. It saved us during months 3 and 4 from his teething, when he couldn't hold a teether.
At 8m he was only given one to sleep.
At 12m, I took it away cold turkey, 5 min of CIO and he's off them.
