Re: When did your LO go to the dentist for the 1st time?
2 but she didn't have any teeth until 1
First few visits are very basic. Just getting them comfortable with the process. Basically just a look over and brushing.

When did your LO go to the dentist for the 1st time?
My DS will be just over 2. It took a while to get an appt with a pediatric dentist so call in advance. Also, he got teeth late.

Re: When did your LO go to the dentist for the 1st time?
DS at 3. DD at 2.5.
It's good to find someone you trust & have a relationship so that when something goes wrong, you have someone.
We asked our ped for recs. She gave us just under 10 names. We called, asked about insurance & looked up the practice online. We liked the "feel" of ours where the wife was a ped dentist & hubby was a adult dentist. The practice is busy & kids are happy.

When did your LO go to the dentist for the 1st time?
My first DD was 3, and I regret it, as she already had existing issues I was unaware of.
My DS was a day over 2. But then I didn't bring him back until he was 3, and he was miserable. If I brought him at 2.5 things might have been better.
My 2nd DD I brought at 18 months or so and have been bringing her every 6 months after (she's now 3.5) and she does amazing at every visit.
We go to Kidd smiles pediatric dentist in Merrick. But used to go to the Manhasset office. They're covered by our insurance and I've never had an issue.

Re: When did your LO go to the dentist for the 1st time?
We tried with DS and he wouldn't open his mouth. He's 3 now and seems more interested in going, so we'll reconsider it. I'll prob just take him when I get a cleaning and see if he'll open his mouth then, and take it from there.

We started at 2 with a pediatric dentist for both my boys. They actually love going to the dentist.

But she lived. And no cavities. So I dodged a bullet on that one.
ETA- we use a Pediatric Dentist.

Wow, DD only got her first tooth at 14 months. I think by 18 months she had about 3 teeth. LOL

When did your LO go to the dentist for the 1st time?
Dd will be 2 years and three months--I have an appointment for her with a pediatric dentist--I was going to take her sooner but she started to give us a hard time when we brushed her teeth and my dentist recommended we wait a little longer. The American Dental association recommendation is that dental visits should start at a year old.

I love these recommendations. My child had no teeth at a year old.
But I'm sure a dentist would have LOVED to have billed my insurance company to look at her beautiful gums!

But by a year my DS had about 6 teeth. So its a general rec....I didn't have dental til he was 2 thats why I waited but at 2 he had a full mouth of teeth.

LOL! The dentists seem to say 1 year, but even my pediatrician was like yeah, you could probably wait until they are at least 2 when they might sit still for that.
We took DS#1 around 3+ I think and DS#2 (he'll be 3 in July) we'll maybe try soon just because the dentist knows we have him and has been saying we should bring him since he got a tooth.
