In NYC $100 PP. Add an extra $50 for the really upscale restaurants and steakhouses.
This and maybe a little more if you're paying for the bday person too.

I think $100 per person is a lot, but probably about right for a NYC dinner with drinks. I would be upset it if were more than that - when I go out alone with DH, even in NYC, we rarely spend more than $150 total.

With large groups, I find that people try to find middle ground because people always have friends of different financial backgrounds. I would say $100 would be a lot for a bday dinner.
DH and I don't do as many group outings anymore or 1 person foots the bill. I did a brunch for my last birthday and DH picked up the tab. When my girlfriends and I go out for a bday outing, it is usually $50-100 pp.
