When do you give a bottle in the crib?

DS is 5 month this week and generally holds his bottle himself at this point. I'm wondering if and when I can give him a bottle in his crib in the morning? He's good about sleeping for a little longer after his morning feeding - so I'm thinking that eventually I can give him a bottle and hop in the shower myself.

(for right now I'm still happy with our early morning alone time, though it does sometimes stress my commuting schedule!)

Never with either DC. DS is 14 months and still wakes early for a bottle. I do give it to him, but not in his crib. I do not talk or turn the lights on, I just give him his bottle, put him back down and he goes back to sleep for another hour or so.

I never gave my kids a bottle in their crib. I would put them in a bouncy seat or papasan chair (sp) and give bottle either propped up or they held it.

I never did, mostly because I breastfed for 10 months. In all honesty, IMO I do not think it is a wise habit to get your child accostomed. My best friend did this with her son and it was torture to break him of the habit, plus the ped said it is very bad for their teeth.
ETA: I missed the "in the morning" part, I read it quickly and thought you meant at night for sleep...I still wouldn't give it to him if he is unattended in his crib.

I would occassionally let her hold her own bottle in the swing, but not crib. she'd drink most, and then fall asleep.

Re: When do you give a bottle in the crib?

can you put him in the bouncy chair in the bathroom while you shower and let him hold it there? I'd only be worried about him choking or spilling it all over himself. There were times when my DS would pull on the nipple and it would squirt everywhere

Me too. I always thought of it as a big no-no and so I made sure feedings were done outside of the crib. To me I also wanted a clear seperation of what the crib is for (sleep) and what feedings and other times were for.

I never did -- I still hold DD for all of her bottles Chat Icon its our cuddle time!! I would think that she would get milk everywhere though and I only change the sheets once a week so that would gross me out. I also never let her drink fully laying down.

When I have to take a shower I put DD in the swing or high chair, recline it and then give her a bottle there - maybe you can try that?

I give my DD her morning bottle in the crib.
It buys me an extra 20 minutes or so in the morning.

I never did. Besides the fact that my DD refused to hold her own bottle Chat Icon, the thought of milk being spilled on the sheets is just too much for me Chat Icon

Ditto.

I had one neice who had tons of teeth issues because of this at an early age.

It's bad if they fall asleep on the bottle and it sits on their teeth all night
.
But if they are drinking their morning milk in a high chair or drinking it in the crib- how do the teeth know the difference?
