When do you start letting DC go to playdates alone?

I know TJ is obviously too young...he is only 3. But, when do kids usually start having playdates without their parents? Kindergarten?

We do drop off playdates, and we probably started at 3. This weekend we have our first drop off birthday party, the kids are all starting to turn 4.

My 5 year old will have playdates after preschool with moms I know. They will pick him up from school at 11:45 take him home with their son, they'll have lunch and I usually pick him up around 2:30.

We had a playdate yesterday. DS's friend's mom came with him, since she said she's never left him at someone else's house alone. We haven't either. The boys are 6.5 and in 1st grade.... I'd probably start dropping him off later this year or next year.

I guess it really depends on the child and how well you know the other parent....

My girls were/are very extroverted so they were always looking to go to someone's house for a playdate WITHOUT mom...

For us they were in PreK so they were 4/5 years old....

Re: When do you start letting DC go to playdates alone?

There are two families that I trust implicitly - we have known them since Alex was born, and we've had many, many, many, countless supervised playdates. I prefer to be there for the playdate because I get along really well with the mom's, but there are times when I'm sick or Yael is sick, and I'll let Alex go on the playdate by herself because I trust the mother. But that's for only two of her friends - otherwise I am always there.

She's 4.5.

DS is 6.5 and so far we have only done drop off play dates with family. Im just know comfortable unless I really know the family. Maybe I am too overprotective. Chat Icon
