when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
Are you a registry shopper....or Purchase something off the registry ?
Friends I went out with last night were discussing this. I was curious to what you would say.

Re: when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
I'm a registry shopper.
My feeling is this is what the person/people want.
I know how much I want to spend so I look for an item in that price range and buy that. I'd rather spend my money on something I know they will want/use rather than something I think they might want/use.
If I can't find anything in my price range, I'll buy a gift card or see if someone wants to go in on a gift.

i try and do a registry item and something non-registry that is more thoughtful...like the one of those baskets with a poem (wine, cleaning, candle)

Re: when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
Usually registry.
I stray off the registry more for babies than brides, b/c Babies R Us is a nightmare & I can never find what they registered for, so I just buy books & cute outfits, especially if they know what they are having.

I typically go with the registry b/c you know the couple wants that stuff. Every once in awhile though I purchase non registry stuff.

For brides - I always stick to the registry. For babies - I like to give a book and a savings bond.

Re: when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
it depends on how close i am to the bride/mom-to-be.
if i'm not too close to her... registry...no thinking involved
if i'm close to her... off-registry

same here - main gift is registry - but then i'll do something small and personal.. if i know the person LOVES wine, i'll do a nice bottle, or something along those lines...

Re: when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
9 times out of 10 it's off the registry.
For my brother's wife and my BIL's wife I got them something off their registry from me and then put together a big basket of stuff for every holiday from my dd. I'm planning on doing the basket again for one of my cousins that I'm very close to, she's like a little sister to me.
I rarely buy engagement gifts off the registry.

Registry. The majority of non-registry things I got were duds (though some were beautiful). Sometimes I'll add in something sentimental / non-registry... but I try to always stick to the registry.

Registry or gift card to where they registered. For my bridal shower I received some things that I didn't register and I never used.

Re: when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
I always go off the registry. If a shower was being thrown for me, I would want everyone else to do the same. There is a reason we have them. I actually wish everyone had an online wishlist for any and every occasion. Picking out gifts would be so much easier.

Re: when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
The worst is when someone buys something you have on your registry but at a different store and you end up with two of the same things. I know you can return it, but why would you do that? This also happens when I buy off of the registry. I've been to showers where someone gives the same gift as me when I've bought it off of the registry. Drives me crazy.

Re: when invited to a shower (bridal or baby)
I usually shop on the registry b/c I prefer to get the person something that they want. However sometimes if it is a good friend I will get them something in addition to the registry and make a basket of some sort.
I have had to go off the registry in the past when I tried to buy a gift (2 weeks before the event so not last minute) and there was either nothing left or only items that were say over $200 left. Which is why it is important that you make sure to add to your registry and also to make sure that there are a items in all price ranges.

I am a registery shopper but in your case I'm not
If their isn't anything on the registery that I like or is in my price range then I will buy something very small and a gift card in the amount I wanted to spend.
