When life hands you a lemon... A Kelly Story
For those that don't know Kelly stories, they are long winded. I like to take you into my state of mind and just imagine my thoughts and look on my face.
Background:
We have been searching months for a babysitter, knowing ours was taking over a regular babysitting job. Nothing crazy, a few hours a few times per month. Even posted on care.com and got crap out of it.
As most of you know, my friend was killed on Friday by a snowplow. She was only 34. I came up with a lot of possibilities of getting back home for the funeral with DS in tow, but nothing feasible. I reluctantly stayed here. Today was the wake.
DH came home from work and watched DS while I got a long awaited haircut. (I know it's been AT LEAST 6 months, maybe a year.) But it was time to do something for myself and stop crying. My hair was so knotted at the ends.
A guy came along asking what I wanted done. I explained I had layers and wanted to keep them, but I needed more than a trim. He had a heavy accent and I could see he was a bit confused. But he said "So keep the existing style?" YES!
He cuts off the bottom layer, pulls the bib off and says 'done' 
I asked about the other layers and my bangs. He looked lost, then finally said "Oh, I didn't know you had layers." Um, they are in my hair. Even if I didn't, who gets a trim of just 1/4 of their hair? He didn't even comb through the top of my head. He then explains another girl will have to do my hair, since she knows layers. Okay.
I am so numb by this point, that I just sit there waiting.
The girl finished with her customer and I explain the situation. By her reaction, I am not the first to be confused by this man. She is fine helping me out. She wets my hair and explains she will have to go shorter, since his cuts are all uneven. 
I am monotone right now "Just do what you have to do."
She begins cutting, then a pained look comes over her face and she walks away saying she is bleeding. Seriously? She cut herself? I kind of snicker to myself thinking it is the worst haircut ever. Yet, I stare blankly to nowhere.
But then a new song started on the radio:
ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG 
I start to tear, but then I begin SOBBING. Another hairdresser comes to console me, telling me they will fix my hair. Bleeding girl comes back and apologizes for having to go so short. Guy comes over, hovering behind me. Seems like he was expecting me to go off on him.
I explain my friend dying and that she was so young. I tell them I couldn't get up for the wake and funeral and I felt like crap and they weren't helping the situation. I came out for the haircut to have a moment to myself, not to talk. I just wanted to reflect, but what the hell was going on with my hair?
Suddenly, one of the girls says "I am a babysitter. Want me to watch your son while you go to the funeral? I know you don't know me, but I want to help you."
I just blurted out "I'm not leaving my son with a stranger to go drive 8 hours, but seriously, YOU BABYSIT?!?!? I have been searching months for a babysitter"
Now she is coming over the next few weeks to 'interview' with Michael. If he likes her, we will go forward. I am not exactly sure what just happened over the past few hours. All I know is I got home, DH hates the haircut, and DS asked what happened to my hair. They have to realize it will grow out. But I will never forget this experience.

Babysitters trump lemonade any day. Go you! let's go with the on one of your most crappy days, your friend was looking out for you too (except for your hair, I mean).

As you pointed out, the hair will grow out. You may have found a babysitter, which is great! I'm so sorry that your moment to feel better didn't really work out though.

i am sooo sorry for your bad hair cut experience!!!!! funny how songs come on that just hit you at the worst times
hopefully something good does come out of this and you find a wonderful babysitter for your son!

this could be a movie scene.
I think maybe you were destined to meet this girl. Maybe because of this meeting something that is supposed to happen in your life will come out of it.
Or maybe your friend made it happen. Never know :)
So sorry to hear about your friend.

I was truly sitting there expressionless. They just figured I was mad. I was, but I was many emotions. But once the song started, forget it. I try not to cry in front of my son, so sometimes it just comes out of nowhere.

so sorry to hear about your friend.
but it does sound like you might have a babysitter on your hands. i hope that works out for you.
and as someone stated, sounded like a scene in a movie. life can be quite interesting when we're handed a whole lotta lemons

Kell, could totally see you sitting there in the chair & then slowly getting pis s ed real, pis s ed as the guy leaves w/ you having no clue WTH is going on or WTH he just said/did.
Then progressively getting madder as the girl is talking to you.
Then I could almost see you laughing as the girl says she is bleeding. Like WTH??
I could see it like a movie scene w/ all the hairdressers around you as you cry, offering you tissues & wiping your tears.
Totally hoping the babysitter works out for you Kell. You need a good break.
