Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
My name is misspelled SO frequently I'm used to it. I get Kristen much more often than Kristin. Heck, I get Christen a lot too! Mispronouncing bothers me a bit more. Like, I get Kristina a lot. I will correct people for mispronouncing. I only correct for misspelling if it's going to be on some sort of documentation or if the person doing the misspelling is somebody who should know better.

Only when they add a letter or two that isn't there. Hello - there's no R or S in my last name. How did you slip it in?

YES...ALL THE TIME
Everybody spells my name with an "i", but it's spelled "Kristen" with an "e".
I have a long italian last name too, so people always get that wring too.

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
people *change* my names (both first and last) and its been happening my whole life. i know i should be over it by now, but the older i get the more ****** i get when it happens.
did anyone ever see the movie "13 going on 30"? the first scene (where the 13 year old "jenna" is sitting for her class picture and the photographer keeps calling her "jenny" and "jennifer") could have been a scene from my childhood. everyone always tried to give me a different name!
now that "jenna" is more popular it doesn't happen that often, but since I got married I tend to give my DH's name when we got to restaurants or whatever -- no one ever messes up Sam!

My old name was never mispronounced although my last name was misspelled almost all the time ( but it sounds the same when misspelled) My new last name... Oh boy to people butcher that one

I'm reading these posts & thinking "I don't even know most of your first names"
For example, Snozberry has both an "s" and an "r"

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
I get it a lot, so I am used to it. My maiden name was easy, but now I get mis-spellings and mis-pronunciations of both my first and last name.
What does bother me is when I leave business voicemails for people and they call back pronouncing my name wrong. I pronounced it FOR THEM on the message, but they still get it wrong. I have never understood that.

No - I'm a low talker. For some reason "Barbara" sounds like "Margaret" in a loud setting. As for the last name, well it's a hard to say one, so it doesn't bother me at all. It does bother DH that I try to simplify it by saying "It rhymes with coronary"
Yes, when DH met you he said... what did she say?? She's a low talker
I am so used to spelling my name when I have to give it to people...
Theresa with an H!
Last name well I went from being a bird (before marriage) to a fish (married name).
My FIL owned a kitchen business in town for a long time so sometimes I'll say it's **** as in **** Kitchen's

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
I have a new last name that is butchered by those who didn't get the revised version of "Hooked on Phonics." Though I have to say it is rather amusing to hear these people struggle. If my students, who are severely speech and language impaired can read and pronounce it, why can't educated educators get it?

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
For some reason so many friends and relatives (older ones) spell my name Juliette. I can't stand it. How can people do thia after 25 years of knowing me?
My last name is long and Italian and since I hyphenated it is long Italian AND Polish. It gets butchered but oh well.
As far as names being mispronounced, I used to pronounce my maiden name the way my dad does until I took an Italian class in high school and the teacher told me I should pronounce it the Italian way and correct others when they make mistakes. I decided she was right and love the correct way to say it and say it that way all the time now. As a result, my brother has called me pretentious Whatever, if he ever goes to Italy he will hear them say it the right way.

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
No one pronounces it wrong, but I hate when they shorten it. If I say my name is patricia, that is what I want to be called. DON'T take it upon yourself to call me Pat.
Another weird thing is that my maiden name was very simple and people would always add a letter to it and make it a completely different name. Like Brady and saying Brandy instead.

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
My maiden name gets mispronounced all the time. It does bother me when people don't make an effort to learn to pronounce my name. If it is their first time, then I don't mind....but I do correct them.

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
My married last name is always mispronounced and it's an ugly mispronunciation at that! It totally annoys me because I grew up with a last name that was simple as pie—nobody ever got it wrong.

Re: When people mispell or mispronounce your name
My maiden name was very easy to pronounce. My married name is one of those "exceptions to the i before e rule" in the English language. Therefore a lot of people mispronounce and misspell my married name. It's very annoying since I had it so easy.
Oh well the sacrifices I make for my man

Married last name is very irish, and often mispronounced. I've heard Mickey, McGee, McGoo, Mackey, etc.
