When something says dry clean only or hand wash
Do you follow it? or do you throw it in the wash?

Re: When something says dry clean only or hand wash
My mom always says to hand wash it in wool lite and then lay it out to dry. I am too scared to do it but she does it and has done a few things for me too that have come out fine.

same here. i don't have time to hand wash, and it's too much $$ to dry clean.

Re: When something says dry clean only or hand wash
i dry clean them unless it's an inexpensive item. i want my clothes to last as long as possible and the washer is just too harsh. i rarely even dry my clothes- most go on the hanging rack.

Even silk?
When you dry flat, is that on a towel on the table?
So is it mostly the dryer that ruins clothes or the washer? I find some clothes pill like crazy if I wash and dry in the washer and dryer. Which is the culprit?

If it reads "dry clean", then it goes to the cleaners.
If it needs to be ironed or pressed, then it goes to the cleaners.
If it reads "handwash", then I throw it in the washing machine on the handwash cycle or it goes to the cleaners.
I never actually wash by hand.

i think its the dryer that does it. almost none of my things go into the dryer.
sweaters get laid out on a towel anything button down gets hung up right away to avoid ironing jeans get hung up after five minutes in the dryer sheets get hung up outside bras get hung up dress/work pants get hung up
the only things that go into the dryer are towels, pajamas, underwear and T shirts.
I TRIED hang out my towels to dry BUT they are all scratchy and hard when I do that.

you asked about items that say "hand wash OR dry clean" on the tag so those items ill wash as stated.
silk and wool usually say "dry clean only" in their tags and for those items i will dry clean them but ill wear them more than once before i do that.
its 99% the dryer that ruins/shrinks clothes.
i dry all my clothes in my dining room, lol. hanging on the chairs or flat on the chair seats (i have hard chairs) or even flat on the dininhg room table. my dining room is always downy fresh, lol

Re: When something says dry clean only or hand wash
if it says dry clean only, i always bring it to the cleaners.
if it says handwash/dry clean it either goes in the at home dry cleaning kit, depending on the material or i put it on the handwash cycle in the washing machine
I have hand washed stuff in the sink though if its really delicate, it just takes forever to dry
I try to avoid the dry cleaners. I hate the chemicals they use and haven't been able to find a green one around me yet. and everything comes back smelling so strong of the chemical odor.

Re: When something says dry clean only or hand wash
If it says dry clean only I bring it to the dry cleaner's. Usually that means my work pants and wool sweaters and any dresses. Sometimes wool sweaters say hand wash, but I bring it to the dry cleaner's (yes it needs an 's ).
All things cotton get washed. If it is delicate then I hand wash along with bras. If it is a pain to iron then it gets pressed.

Re: When something says dry clean only or hand wash
Really just my and DH's suits, my expensive wool skirts and pants and sometimes DH's dress shirts go to the cleaners.
I used to bring ALL of my silk sweater sets to the cleaners, but it was getting to be really expensive so I started washing them in cold water and hanging them to dry and they are FINE!

Re: When something says dry clean only or hand wash
If it says dry clean, it goes to the dry cleaner. I made the mistake once to do a gentle cycle in the washing machine thinking I would save $$$. I ruined the pants. So it's either I don't buy dry clean clothes or they go to the dry cleaner.
I hand wash all hand washable clothes too.
