when to sign up for daycare for sept.?
i have to go back to work (i'm a teacher) in sept.. when do i have to sign ds up? he'll be 16 months then.

Definitly now!!! Some places require a registration fee (usually btw. 50 - 75 dollars) and some also require first months tution up front.

Depends on the daycare.
The first daycare I tried had very little spots. It was an employee daycare center that allowed a few community kids. It was also significantly less money & very, very little turnover with the teachers.
I signed up when I was newly pregnant. DS got in when he was 1 year old. That's a 1 year & 10 month wait - but oh so worth it!
Places like Kindercare (where he went before he was a 1 year) and Kiddie Academy are virtually no waiting times.

WEll, Sept is a very popular start time due to the amount of teachers, people moving over the summer etc.
My kids have been on a list since last July and it looks like I have to place them early (next month) or I got to the bottom of the list. The director told me she has MANY requests for Sept. and they won't all get spots. Granted it's for a small center.
If you want anything smaller than the largest chains I'd do it NOW! Even the largest chains I wouldn't wait too much longer. You want to be able to get your first choice.

Yes, I put down $100 which will be put towards the application fee.....if I don't go there, I get it back....

Yes!
I signed up in January for August in 2007 and had no problem. Soon after there was a waiting list.
Although...don't stress because for the most part many places have an opening here or there. I just say do it as soon as possible so that you get what you want.
