1 week old.
we go out to dinner every friday or saturday night and DS has come with us each and every time since he was born. he's so good in restaurants

less than 1 week old. We left her in her car seat and she just hung out. I was nervous but my inlaws wanted to take us out. She did great, but only go if you are comfortable.

Michael was 6 days out when we first took him out and that night we went out for dinner.

flame me all if you want.... 9 days they were in the restaurant.. right out of the nicu.
they were and are fine. i just didnt let ANYONE touch them.

At about 9 weeks when we went on vacation. We would either alternate holding DS or if he wa sleeping or fell asleep while there put him in his car seat in the snap & go!
I learned to eat one handed like a pro that week!

We were out at restaurants at two weeks old. It was much easier than eating out with a toddler!!!

I don't remember but i'm sure it was early. At restaurants we would just slide the infant seat in sideways.
If your uncomfortable...especially with what you've been through I would leave him home.

I took DD to a diner to meet one of my friends for lunch when she was about 3 weeks old. We kept her in her infant seat and put the whole thing in the booth. She slept the entire time.
You have to do what you are comfortable with. If you don't feel comfortable bringing him to a restaurant then don't bring him. If you are going to worry the entire time about him, then you're not going to have fun. See if you MIL can watch him.

Don't let someone else make you feel guilty for wanting to leave your baby home. I am an overprotective parent and to be honest I am so sick and tired of people judging me and my parenting skills because I try to keep my son safe. Do what your gut tells you to do and if others have a problem with it - TOO BAD!
I think that the first time I brought my son to a restaurant he was around 12 weeks to answer your original question though. I have NEVER brought him to dinner though because there is no way he would sleep at that time and it would have been horrible for me.
Thanks - part of the reason why I do not want to take him is because he has we like to call his "fussy hour" anywhere from 6 to 10 pm...it does not last long, but I'd rather not ruin everyone around us dinner.

At 2 weeks we went to PF Changs and just put the infant seat in the booth next to us.

I say go with your baby now...IMO it only gets harder to bring them as they grow up and have a mind of their own

I think you should do whatever makes you feel comfortable---I didn't take DS to a restaurant until he was 5 months, but he spent the first month in the nicu, then he was colicky and I was terrified of him getting sick and going back into the hospital.
