Honestly, I never even thought to strip the sheets.Chat Icon

I always make the bed because I dont want to leave it all messed up even though I know they will wash them anyways.

I used to do that until I started travelling with DH and he suggested it - the thought had never crossed my mind either!

Re: When you are an overnight guest in someone's home...

Depends.

When I sleep over at my mom's I remake the bed (unless she says not to) because its implied that I'm the only one that sleeps in that bed or sofa/bed.

If I were visiting friends for the weekend, I'd ask first.

I'd prefer if my guests leave everything on the beds so I generally do the same. I don't always get a chance to do big loads of laundry after having guests leave, so I'd rather just do it myself when I have the time.

I strip the sheets then make the bed so it doesn't look messy.

Ditto.

Nope... I make the bed.

The way I see it, it's easier for them to just pull the blankets off the bed to get to the sheets than it is to take the whole bed apart and put the sheets back on if they weren't planning on washing them at all.

Nope--never have done that. I just make the bed.

Who knows whether or not the host will have an opportunity to wash the sheets immediately? I wouldn't want them to have an eye sore like that in a guest room or a bed all stripped.

Same here.

ditto.

PLUS - what if their mattress is stained or something (from pets or children or what-have-you, stuff happens)? I wouldn't want to embarrass them.

Re: When you are an overnight guest in someone's home...

It depends.

At my ILs yes, because she prefers. At my moms, no, because no one sleeps on the pull out but us (that I know of!).

At friends, I'll ask and most likely strip the bed unless they have a strong objection-the worst that can happen is the dirty sheets sit in their hamper until they get a chance to wash them, preferable to me than still on the bed.

At my house, if someone asked me I would say "no" because as my guest I don't want them to lift a finger. If they just did it without asking me, that's a nice gesture and I wouldn't think it was weird at all.

omg this was my first thought! LOL in my house the guest room would get the oldest mattress since it wouldnt be used often! In my parents' house my old room is the guest room and I have had that mattress since i switched out of a crib AND it was a hand me down LOL I would NEVER do that! I would always just make the bed

Make the bed usually. If this is my parents or a close family member I might ask about stripping the sheets.

Re: When you are an overnight guest in someone's home...

I haven't been an overnight guest in someone's house very often but the last time I was I made the bed. I wasn't sure if she had time or planned to strip it that day and I didn't want to leave the bed unkempt. I guess I could have stripped the bed myself. Something to think about for next time.

Re: When you are an overnight guest in someone's home...

I ask them what they prefer. If I stay more than one night, I make the bed for the nights I am staying. The day I leave, I ask if they would like me to make the bed or strip the sheets.
