When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
For new years we ordered a hero from stop and shop. It was a 4 foot hero (boars head) at 13.00 a foot. My dh ordered and went to pick it up and they didn't give us anything with it. No salads no mayo no mustard no dressing. I was so MAD! I sent Stop and shop a letter.
The other night after my uncle's wake my friends took us to cold stone. My dh and I got the same thing Apple Pie ala cold stone. We had no apples in it!!!! I gave them a tip and so did my friend and they didn't even say thank you (trust me I could DEAL WITH OUT THE SINGING but thank you would have been nice) Then we sat down to eat it and the chick that helped us came over and said "im sorry but we are closing you have to leave" It's not like we are 14 year old kids here y friends are almost 30. I worked in retail and understand that they want to go home but I spent 12.00 on 2 ice cream let me enjoy it. I coldn't even complain about no apples in there cause they made us leave

Re: When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
I will if I get bad service or not what I ordered. But I also will write a letter if I get good service. I think people always hear the bad and never get good news. I make sure I will let the higher ups know someone did a good job.

Re: When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
Yes I have. I have twice. Once to Tiffanys to complain about not being helped when I went to buy a ring. I sent an email to corporate and told them how I was ignored by all sales staff when I went to purchase the mesh silver ring. I gave them an account of the entire story. I guess they verified it and got back to me. I got a call from the VP of Tiffanys who apologized and SENT ME THE RING for FREE.
Then about a month ago, i called the Estee lauder spa to make appts for my bridal party for my wedding. The guy who answered the phone was nasty and hung up on me. I wrote Estee lauder a letter. About a week ago, i got a package from them filled with all beauty products.
I would write a letter, it couldn't hurt and who knows maybe you could get some free ice cream from them for it.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!! That is really great customer relations in the long run!!!!! Very generous of them!
My DH has written a letter, but to no avail. MIL wrote one to Mortons Steakhouse and they sent her a $300 gift certificate (original bill was over $900). So it definetely doesn't hurt.

Yes, I would send a letter, email with a detailed account. Usually, good customer service companies will send you something to make up for their "wrong doings".

I do send letters, and some of you know my recent experience with the Gap. On the flipside, I also try to send letters when I get great service.

Re: When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
For me, calls or snail mail letters are better than emails. I was ****** off about earrings that DH bought me at Zales but even more ****** off about how they handled returns and I wrote a LONG email to them, no response. I also emailed A&W and Chili's with no reply. DH called Hertz about a bad experience with a rental and got coupons in the mail.

I had the same experience at Tiffany's when I went to buy my mesh ring. I left without buying it and went back another day and had a rude salesperson that time too. I didnt think to write a letter. I have written letters for other things and have usually gotten some response back. Most recently we were going through BJs for food for my dd's b-day party. We called to order the deli platter and a sushi platter. DH went the day of the party to pick up the stuff to find out they didnt have any sushi and they wanted to charge us extra for substituing something with the platter. It took him 2 hours to get it all straightened out. He sent an email to BJs corporate office and they forwarded it on the store manager. She called and apologized, gave him $25 off the order and a free yearly membership to BJs.

I had something VERY similar happen to me (on more than TEN occassions) at Tiffany's... Just being plain IGNORED. And I buy a lot of things from them- I have about 12-15 pieces of jewelry from them (bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, etc). I also happen to be a big fan of their crystal and have a few bowls and vases from them. I also buy a lot of gifts from them for friends, family and DH.
I found myself getting ignored SO bad that I would start to "dress up" when I went there and I would put on a lot of their jewelry so that hopefully they would see that I have bought many things from them in the past, etc. I mean, how pathetic and crazy is that?!!! Finally, I was like- this is ridiculous b/c it STILL didn't help and I was still getting ignored.
If I didn't love their stuff so much I swear I would never shop there again... But, the instance that angered me the most was the last time I went there- I went with my MIL, who pulled right in front in the first space with her Mercedes- walked in and they literally almost JUMPED the counter to help her. She was greeted and had salespeople coming from all corners of the store... This made me pisssed!!
I felt like Pretty Woman when they would not help her!
So, since then I have been so mad but I STILL did not write a letter-- but after seeing that you got a response (and I'm not even looking for jewelry) but just so that they will become aware of it- I might write them a letter about my 12+ bad experiences- and the fact that I felt I had to play "dress up" in order to walk in there!

Re: When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
I once wrote a letter to a Hotel Chian...We had stayed one night in CT for a concert and it was awful. NO running vending machines , no drinks, water etc anywhere but lobby ( we were on 17th floor)...kids smoking set off fire alarms, elevators NEVER came back on, walked 17 flights almost 4 times to get water etc....Asked room servcie for water, they hung up on us.
We got our stay for free based on letter.

That was what happened to me! I ran into Tiffanys on my way back from a water park. I had on shorts and a tank. They guard wouldn't open the door for me! Then when I opened the door and walked in, I was ignored. So that was the point of my letter as well. Why am I, a frequent shopper at Tiffanys who buys more then just silver jewelery, ignored just b/c I'm wearing shorts? They must have verified my story with the sales staff b/c the staff that ignored me, rememebered me asking to try on a ring and identified me. I was told they all got letters put in their personel files regarding the incidient.

I don't, but one of my good friends is the queen of sending letters to complain. It cracks me up. But she does get some good response. You should if it would make you feel better.

Once. I wrote a letter to my catering hall after my wedding letting them know what a huge dissappointment my wedding cake was. I got nothing back. Not even a "sorry".

Re: When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
On the other hand, while I don't always write a letter, I have said something at the time and gotten good results. Right before the holidays I went to the new Ciao Baby in Carle Place for dinner with 3 girlfriends. We were told 30-45 mins when we arrived. After an hour we checked, again after 90 mins, and at 1 hr 45 mins we checked again. We told them it had been almost 2 hrs and we were told 45 mins, they were very apologetic. Next thing we know the manager came over and apologized and then sent us a round of drinks and an appetizer. Ciao Baby is known for long waits and we have never been given free drinks, they were very nice about it.

I do, I do mostly for good service. I worked in retail for 15 years and went to BB&B to get a bedset and the irl who helped me was amazing. I called the main offfice and told the DM I thought she was great. He was happy because as you know (if you do or have worked in retail) you never get good calls so he was happy.
I only called one resturant ( olive garden) we went to that was horrible, they were like oh sorry. Never going there again.

Re: When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
Once to Loews Cinema. I don't think I've ever been so angry in my entire life.
About 2 years ago my DH and I were basically thrown out of the movie theater b/c we wanted to play video games before our movie started (we came from dinner and had an hour to kill.) We were told we were not allowed in the video game area until 15 minutes before our movie started.
The theater's manager was so rude and obnoxious along with his co-worker friends. (kids in their twenties who apparently thought they worked for the feds with their "pin of the day" on their oversized suit jacket lapels. )
We didn't get nasty or anything, we just questioned why we couldn't play video games. It's not like we were teenagers looking to start trouble...we were in our 30s. And what's the point of video games if you can't play them!?!
I never received a response. (Not that I'm shocked by that.)
And I haven't seen that manager or co-workers there since the incident.
(This happened at the Shore 8 in Huntington Village for those that care or know what bonehead manager I'm talking about.)

Call corporate and the manager of the store will call to say sorry. They will also send you a coupon for a free "gotta have it" aka the large size. Next time you go to a Cold Stone they will love and you and say thank you.

Re: When you get bad service do you send letters to complain...
i once wrote a letter to a hotel chain. the service was not bad but i left my jacket in the room and didn't realize it until we were back home. my fault completely, but trying to get someone to check and mail it to me was a freakin nightmare. i wrote to then amd told them that it should not have taken so long, etc. but i got a generic letter from them.
i wanted to send a letter to the payroll dept of the lirr. they have over 400 engineers and they have 4 people doing the weekly payroll? ridiculous. my dh's check was wrong 2 weeks in a row, i was so mad i wanted to complain, but dh would not let me.

I've called and written emails and letters. For really bad stuff, I've posted reviews on sites like resellerratings.com, epinions.com and consumerist.com.
