Shoes always come off.
My kids knew at age 2, shoes come off when we get in the door and right into their show basket.

It helps keep the house cleaner and helps protect the wood floors.

Several studies have found that the dirt tracked in on one's shoes often contain lead and pesticides. It's even worse if the home has carpet because those chemicals get trapped in the fibers.

Re: When you get home do you take off your shoes?

I am barefoot right now.

Shoes always off as soon as I get home, and I change into my comfy clothes right away too.

Same for DH and DS.

I am living in a cultural house where we take off the shoes when we go in on the top floor. due to dogs and gross people downstairs, i always wear shoes down there. in my parents house we never took shoes off.

I take my shoes off as soon as I get home. I'm either in socks or barefoot in my house.

uughhh... thats so annoying!! we live on the ground floor but always take our shoes off b/c we have white carpeting... our co-op demands that 80% of the unit is carpetted. My upstairs neighbor has hardwood and they NEVER take their shoes off. Chat Icon

When I lived in our old apartment the woman upstairs had her heals on at 5:30 am Chat Icon I swear she must have slept in them!

I had to fight really hard to make them get carpetting in their BR.

Hate wearing shoes in the apartment. First of all, having lived UNDER someone who wore heels on wood floors, I want to be considerate of the person below me.

Secondly, I do not want all of the crap on the bottom of my shoes all over my floors. Yuck!

Shoes off first thing. Then clothes, then jewelry.

When I know I'm not going anywhere everything comes off.

I run all of my errands in one shot after work so I can just plop.

I remove my shoes.

The minotaur above me does not. She needs some slippers for those hooves. 7 am, 1 am, clomp clomp clomp. What are you on, stilts?

Sorry for the tangent. She and her hooves annoy me Chat Icon

Ok, so it seems that most people take their shoes off when they get in. What are the chances that the last THREE people who have lived above me do not? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's just another reason I need to move and never live under someone again Chat Icon

I work outdoors a lot and in work clothes. I can get sweaty and dirty, especially in summertime. When I get in the door, everything comes off! Chat Icon A hot shower soon follows.

I like to be barefoot when I am at home or if it is really cold then I will wear slippers. If you are in an apartment building does it have any regulations about a % of the floors being carpeted? Is anything written into your lease? If so, I would absolutely bring this issue up with the management. It is a quality of life issue. Chat Icon

Yes, my Dad owns this house, lol. It is in the lease, they have to have area rugs in the living room and that is it I think.

These specific people above me are just VERY loud in general. For instance the husband will literally be shoveling right outside my window at 10pm on a weeknight in the dark!?! Or hammering something. They have only been here for a short while and b/c my Dad is the landlord I don't wanna come off obnoxious. Chat Icon BUT that's a whole other post. Chat Icon

I was in the same situation. When I lived in the downstairs apartment in the house I live in now (owned my my father in law), I used to have these obnoxious tennants who would make all sorts of noise - running up & down the stairs banging things at all hours of the night. It drove us crazy. The minute they moved out, we moved upstairs & carpeted all the bedrooms. I just dont understand how people can be just so inconsiderate.

Re: When you get home do you take off your shoes?

I am a barefoot kind of person, so yes shoes are removed. DH walks around with shoes everywhere. He got a speech when he did that on the new LR rug. He works in the City. I don't need this in my house. Especially with a young child and toys on the floor.

Re: When you get home do you take off your shoes?

I would say within 5 minutes of walking in the house my shoes are off and comfy sweats are on! But I do walk around in slippers cause the hardwood floors are chilly on my feet!!!
