When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?

We met one set of neighbors who came over and introduced themselves but other than that we haven't met anyone else...Is this normal? Should we make the effort?? Not sure what to do

We met a few of them when we were moving in, they made a point to come over and introduce themselves. We have not met nearly everyone on the block yet and we moved in Oct 20th. I am sure as the weather gets nicer, more people will be outside and it will be easier to meet everyone.

As I see people I wave to them or passing in my car, I wave but other then that I did not knock on doors or do anything like that.

2 sets of neighbors came over the day we moved in. The others we met in passing outside, they came over to us or we went to them when we saw them doing something in their yard. We have been here 2 weeks and we still haven't met everyone. HTH

We moved into our home in Feb. We didn't really meet our neighbors until that April/May when we were out doing yard work on the house.

Winter's keep people inside, which doesn't allow much interaction outside to meet and greet.

You cna always go house to house and introduce yourself if you're so inclined.

We didn't go that route and when we were all out doing planting/pruning was when we had better ability and time to talk, greet, meet, etc.

no not really...we met our next door neighbors when they moved in...and the people next to them when they moved in...
we have met a few others while walking our dogs...we live on a dead end, so not many people come down by us.

Our neighbors were great when we moved in...they all came over to say hello.....a month after we bought the house we were married and on our wedding day they all sat outside on lawn chairs waiting for me to come out.. they were all soooo sweet....giving me gifts,taking pictures, wishing me well.....I was truly touched by them

We met most of ours in the summer after we moved in (we moved in March). In the warmer months more people are outside doing gardening, landscaping, walking their dogs, washing their cars etc. so it's easier to meet people!

Not really. We made a point to introduce ourselves to the ppl on both sides of us.

All of our neighbors directly around us came over when we ere out - probably within the first week. No one more than one house away stopped by, we have met some of them while walking around the neighborhood.

If no one stops by, I wouldn't feel awkard going to their house and saying "hi, we just wanted to introduce ourselves" Sometimes people are just shy and afraid to make the first move.

We met three neighbors while raking leaves - they were outside also or drove by while we were out there. Apparently, the previous owners never told anyone they were moving!

We did the wave with another neighbor when a ball the kids were playing with went over the fence into our yard.

One of our neighbors left a bottle of wine at our door yesterday and another invited us to a party at their house. I think it's totally worth it not to waste time waiting for someone else to make the first move.

I think I'm going to bake cookies or something and introduce myself to the other neighbors we haven't met yet.

Our next door neighbors had a big plant sent to us from a local nursery. We also received a few bottles of wine and cookies from others.

Only one came over - the other ones we just met when we were outside.

One came over and brought us homemade soup and biscuits. It was so nice. I always say that I am going to do that when new people move in but 2 new people have moved in and the most I have done is wave. I guess I am a little nervous/embarrassed to just walk over and introduce myself. I wish I had more guts because I loved it when the neighbor brought over the soup.

You will probably meet more once the weather gets nicer, and everyone is outside.

when i moved in, you were the only neighbors who spoke to us!

we've been here a year and a half and only 2-3 houses acknowledge our presence.

No!!! Such a pet peeve of mine. Only the people directly next door did. We have met a few others during the summer while we have been outside, but we don't know the majority of them. Very sad. I guess we could have made more of an effort ourselves, but I always thought it was up to the older neighbors to welcome the new neighbors....

i have been in my house for a year now and i do not know the names of my neighbors. DH knows the name of one, but that's only b/c she came pounding on our door one night wanting us to make a phone call for her.

When we moved in one neighbor came over with brownies. We live in a court and there are only 11 houses so when I had a pampered chef party I invited everyone on my block and about 6 women showed up. After that there was a block party and we met the rest....

we bought our home and gut it over a period of 4 months before we moved in, during demolition our surrounding neighbors came by to check it out and offer some help... i love our neighborhood!

Both neighbors on either side came over to say hello and introduce themselves. One even brought a gift basket. We eventually met the neighbors behind us while working in the backyard. But we've definitely established a friendship with the neighbors on both sides...to the point where their kids come over my house all the time, whether to play with our dogs or DD. (We also attend their BBQs and parties.)

Over time we met others when taking the dogs out for walks around the block.

Last year I was invited to a neighbor's party. She hosted a party where 3 of her friends could sell goods: Arbonne, custom handbags and jewelry. Although it was to sell goods, I was grateful she gave me the opportunity to meet a bunch of the other neighborhood women. Since that party, we've been more involved with the neighbors, from attending functions with them (fundraisers) to going to other parties in the neighborhood.

It took a lot of time for me to know my neighbors. I know most of them because of my dog! .

i would have to say my neighbors were overly willing to meet us..weird even but they are all very nice!

The neighbors across the street always catch us when we're outside and they aren't shy to stop by either. The neighbors on either side of us are quiet, we usually just wave to them. Our closest neighbors leave chocolates and cards, etc in our mailbox once in a while for holidays....so this Christmas I made chocolates and left some for each of them.

We met a few other neighbors during a block sale last summer which was fun ! I wish we had neighbors who were younger because I would totally invite them over everytime we have parties !

We bought our house in July. When we closed on the house, the previous owners were still around that day cleaning out the shed (they had so much stuff), so they next day when we were here cleaning, slowly but surely each neighbor came out of their houses and asked from a far if the previous owners were gone yet. Boy did they dislike the previous owners. So when they all knew it was clear they came out. So we met a believe like 5 of our neighbors the second day we owned the house. Since then we have been invited to parties, had food brought over to our house, have borrowed tools and plenty of hello's from across the way. It will be easier in the spring or summer to meet more neighbors. If you aren't shy, then go say hello. Enjoy your new home!

3 out of the 5 houses that are closest to us are seasonal homes that are vacant most of the time. The other neighbors started saying hello right away & our across the street neighbors came over & offered to help us work on the house. They plow our driveway for us, we go to their parties & they come to ours, we pet sit for them. The guy that owns the bungelow next door lives in Florida, we watch the house for him & talk to him on the phone once in a while. The house behind us is empty & we help the owners by mowing the lawn for them.
Our neighborhood has its own civic association/beach club & I got elected to the board of directors right after we moved in & brought back an old commitee they had "the welcoming committee". So now every new homeowner gets a welcome bag from the LPCA as well as whatever welcoming they get from their closest neighbors. The community also holds several events a year so we have made friends then. We have met lots of people on the beach too, this is really the kind of place where people want to be neighborly. We just got a new neighbor, I'm planning on bringing him cookies this weekend.

If we moved in & people didn't talk to us, I would have tried talking to them.
Winter makes it a little tricky, but try reaching out to them!
