Re: When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?
we moved in the end of jan. Our neighbors were very nice. we received gifts from a few of them with little notes. then when it snowed, we met everyone. the entire block was out shoveling and having snow ball fights. it was great!

Never...they barely even say hi.
I actually had a small yard sale once we moved in (rare but it was more for my sister) and one came by and didnt say a word to me.

Re: When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?
No one really made an effort, and neither did we (I am way too introverted for that). We really only met them when doing yard work or walking our dog. They all pretty much have kids though and seem to all be friendly, so I think we would need to have a few kids to fit in

We only met three of our neighbors. We met two once we moved in and one later on.

No!!! Such a pet peeve of mine. Only the people directly next door did. We have met a few others during the summer while we have been outside, but we don't know the majority of them. Very sad. I guess we could have made more of an effort ourselves, but I always thought it was up to the older neighbors to welcome the new neighbors....

same here. Our immediate next door neighbor came over to introduce themselves after we had been in the house a year, and that was only because we were outside finishing up dinner. We wave, but that's about it.
The couple that lives 3 houses down from us, had a neighborhood cocktail party last year, we met most of our neighbors, but don't know any of them. Just a passing wave every now and then.

Re: When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?
Our neighbors made efforts to meet us. One brought us home baked cookies while we were remodeling one day, and another gave us a card and a decorative garden rock about neighbors. It was very nice. The older neighbors next to us (gone now unfortunately) would give us tomatoes, ask if we needed help or tools, and even helped me paint our mutual (his really) fence.
The rest we just graduallly met.

Re: When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?
not really
We moved into this house TWO days before Emily was born, so DH said a few came over to say hi but I was in the hospital with Emily and he was crazy running back and forth for me.
Then once we were more settled by the time I got out with our newborn a bit, we were no longer "new" neighbors.
This street isn't at all social though - I have since had my second baby and only the woman across the street yelled congrats to me as I walked to my car one day

Re: When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?
oh and I wanted to add - I now make it a point to go over and welcome any other new neighbor now since I know how rude it is to be ignored when moving in!
Someone welcoming you to the area with wine/cookies, etc is sooo sweet I think!

Re: When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?
We've met all but one. One family came over with champagne and cookies when we moved in, and the others we met while we were building. Not all the houses in here are up yet so I guess we will be the ones welcoming the majority of the people.

Re: When you moved in did your neighbors make an effort to meet you?
Well, if they haven't said hello yet - I would first think it was because its the holiday season and they are busy.
Plus, the winter keeps people indoors.
We have met the people on both sides of us and across the street two houses.
Randomly, not the people behind us and they are really not going to like us when we take back a foot of our property line when we put in a fence.
It takes time.
