Re: When you pass on baby clothes to a friend do you expect something in return?

I recently gave away my son's clothes to a friend at his school (6 bags) and I don't expect/want anything, a simple thank you is fine.

i wouldn't expect anything in return. If I gave them to you it's because I was done using them and thought you might get use out of them.

I once gave a gift card to a resaurunt to a co-worker who gave me tons of clothing. SInce the bags of clothes saved me so much money, I felt like I had to.

I don't expect anything in return.

I have lent some gear to friends and they have gifted us toys and clothes for non-occasions.

We are a little extra generous with those who have given us hand me downs.

We also moved recently so whenever we see our friends, it seems like we are bringing wine, dessert and gifts for the kids. Then they feel obligated to bring us items so it has become a habit of just buying gifts ALL the time.

One of my friends gave me an entire maternity clothing wardrobe. I gave her a GC and returned the clothing when I was done with them. I have received gifts when I have passed my kids clothing on and I have received nothing when passing on things as well. I have been fine either way. I don't expect anything in return and am just happy that I know the items are being used and appreciated.

No. I would never expect anything in return for a donation.

The thought would never cross my mind.
I am just happy to get the stuff out of my house and happy that someone can make use of it.

I have given friends clothing in the past. No I don't expect anything other than a thank you. I did make one request if there was anything they didn't want that they returned it so I could donate it, but otherwise once I give it is theirs and looked on as a gift not with any expectations.

I dont ever expect or want anything in return when I give them.

But DH has a cousin who hase given us a ton of really nice clothes, a lot that were brand new. We were very thankful, so we sent her a $50 gift card as a thank you.

I give them away because someone needs/wants/can use them. I would never expect anything in return. Would a thank you card be nice yea, but you don't have to. My SIL gave us a TON of boy clothes and in return she asked that we post pics on FB, since they live in another state, to see him in some of her favorite outfits from her son.

Can you give a gc sure, but I would NEVER base my $$$ decision on how much of it I used or how much I normally spend on my kids clothes. That just seems petty and rude. Even if you only used 2 things if you can afford it and your DH wants to give a $50 gc why not? It's not about you, but about saying thank you to them for offering the clothes. Again, I'm not saying you have to but it would be a nice gesture if DH was adamant about it.

A thank you card should be enough. When I give people stuff I don't ever expect anything in return!

No I wouldnt expect anything in return but I think your husband idea is a good one though... expecially if they give you clothes regularly. Maybe compromise and give them a $25 gift card.

i dont expect anything in return, but i have gotten gift cards as a thank you. im just happy to see my daughters stuff being used as opposed to dumping it into a donation dumpster and wondering where it ends up.

now that i am expecting twins, some people have given us so much and been so generous that i WANT to give a gift card just to let them know we appreciate it! we would have had to spend alot more money on the things they were giving us had we bought them new.

No. If I wanted money, I would sell them on Craigslist or Ebay. I just want them to be used again.
