Where are you with social distancing?
I have seen my dad and my uncle. My dad is almost 80 and he has been by himself. My husband has had his friend over but he lives by himself.
I have been going back to work here and there.
I do wear a mask when I go to the store... And wash my hands constantly.
But I am ready to see every body!

Yeah, I've been confused about how people in my area are already planning home parties and inside playdates. And I'm in a part of NC where cases are making national news.
I'm still basically quarantined - only go shopping when it's necessary, and mostly avoid friends. I've been hanging out with my boyfriend and his kids the entire time, so the only other thing we've done is last weekend when we got take out and met at a park to eat. We brought a blanket to place over the picnic table and I sat far away from everyone else.
Cases are on the rise here and we have a lot of hard-headed people that refuse to wear masks - so I fully expect the hospitals to get overcrowded again soon.

Re: Where are you with social distancing?
We're done distancing. Of course we still follow all rules when out in public and wear masks when required. We get together with family though. Haven't really seen any friends yet, not because we're distancing, work is just crazy and with school wrapping up, we just haven't had a chance.

LOL when you said you husband has had his friend over but he lives by himself, I had to read that 3 times because I thought you meant your HUSBAND lives by himself. And I was like- how did you work out THAT deal?

Where are you with social distancing?
I’m done. I’ve had friends over my house and I’ve gone to friends. Play dates and sleepovers. My family is functioning again and we are all happy again (myself and one of my children we’re not doing well mentally with this). Seems like most people in my neighborhood are also done with it too. I only wear a mask when I HAVE to.

My son and I were having major issues. I didn't realize how bad his were until we sent him out to play. My other son is more of a homebody so he had some issues but has been better overall.
We are gathering a bit more - with certain friends. DS 1 is playing with a few kids in the neighborhood and we've gotten together with two families here and there.
My inlaws have come over (my father in law tested positive awhile ago so he's more open to going out now) but we haven't seen my parents yet.

Re: Where are you with social distancing?
I entirely followed social-distancing for two months.
Ultimately, I had to make a choice: Did I want to prioritize my mental health over my physical health or vice versa? For me, the answer was mental health, which involves seeing friends and family. Further, my mental health affects my physical health. For example, when I am depressed and anxious, I overeat and fail to exercise. I needed to better my mindset to bolster my health overall. Since I have started socializing and engaging in some routine activities, I feel better. I care about what I put in my body again; I workout regularly.
I'm not acting in a callous fashion. I follow social-distancing and mask-wearing rules when required, and I certainly respect other people's boundaries.

Actually the cases have dropped. There was a spike, which was 1,370 cases on 6/6 but down to 676 on the 9th. I don't know how many are hospitalizations as I only look at the chart for the number recorded each day. Also more people are probably being tested. I don't think you will ever see zero anyplace here for awhile. New Zealand is the only place I have heard with zero.

Re: Where are you with social distancing?
All I have to say is the majority of the biggest offenders I have seen are elderly people. They don’t care or want to hear anything. Like I mentioned before I live in a building that has a lot of older people (60+).
The building actually enforced strict rules before the government started. They have fought every one of them, to the point where they had to put hospital curtains to stop them from congregating in the lobby and talking to the concierge workers. The lobby looked like a hospital unit at one point.
They cram into the elevators, talk to my son, touch him and try to pinch his cheeks. Talk about how he’s such a great kid with no distance. My son is always wearing a mask meanwhile most of them don’t.
Complain about the pool not being open, complain about the chemicals they use to clean the elevators being to strong and tarnishing the buttons, they fought to have the mini park opened. They still congregate in the lobby to talk and you hear them complain all the time lol. Even though the building repeatedly sends out notices to stop congregating.
if you think we’re bad on here with wanting to get out. Try coming to my building.

I think they are the majority who are getting it too as Cuomo said unemployed/retired people who stay home. They DON'T stay home though. I know many retired people who insist on going out every.single.day. They just can't stay in the house.

Re: Where are you with social distancing?
Over it. I did as told through MDW. Now we see family and friends at each other's houses. We all mostly stay outside but nobody is disallowing bathroom use or anything. My older son has playdates all the time. I try to keep the kids outside but if it's too hot or rainy, I let them in.
I haven't hugged or kissed anyone yet.
I follow guidelines when out in public and I will follow them when I return to my huge office building next week.

Re: Where are you with social distancing?
We're still distancing for the most part. We had immediate family over for DS's bday Memorial day weekend. But we stayed outside and apart.
We don't really have a lot of friends to hang out with and my kids have not asked for playdates with anyone nor have they been asked over for one. I guess we are loners...
We're still wearing masks in stores and only go out once a week or less. The kids only started coming in stores with me at the beginning of June.
Outside we've given up on the masks and we are at the beach or on a hike almost every day.
The boys are all starting camp July 6 and I'm going back to work June 15. But we will keep distancing as much as possible outside of that.

Where are you with social distancing?
I'm done and living my normal life except with two people I am close to who are over 65. With them, I stand 6 feet apart. Also, I naturally am someone who likes space when I'm talking and this pandemic has made me realize I naturally stand 6 feet apart. Other than that, no social distancing.

Re: Where are you with social distancing?
I am so confused. I've mostly been ok with this because I am a homebody, but I miss my family. I have gone to the grocery store ( usally DH gos without me ) & to get take out. Last week I went to a nursery. I amnot goign to any regualr stores or outdoor restaurants now that htey are open
I keep reading that it is only okay to see people outside, at a distance. But then, stores are open, and my boss wanted us to go get things out of our storage unit (requiring raildroad & subway.)
I feel like doctors, govermnet etc is telling me I can only see people I don't want to ( strangers on the subway, people eating outside the restaurant I an trying to get take out from) , but I am still supposed to social distance from my mother?
I am a rule follower, and I find the rules so unclear. well maybe they aren't unclear. We can only do things that will generate money (working, shopping.) or can be done far, far away from anyone else.

Yes, New Zealand has zero cases now. Now they are totally lifting restrictions. And do you know how they did it? Strict lockdown, travel restrictions and widespread testing. They kept it up until the virus was eradicated.
I think all the people who say they are “done” with social distancing, think wearing masks is “rude”(?), and are going back to complete normal should read about what they did in New Zealand.

True, but under the circumstances that might be their best life as compared to staying home in isolation all day, kwim ?

Re: Where are you with social distancing?
We are still being restrictive. We expanded our circle around MDW to include my inlaws and my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. We visited my mom but sat outside.
Honestly, we are fine. No one is suffering mentally. I'm bored, but I can live with bored. I can't live with dead.
My kids are loving all the electronics time. My younger son spends all day talking to friends on Messenger Kids. My older son gets less social interaction, but that's his choice.
Does it suck not being able to run all over the place? Sure, but it's for our health and for our loved ones health. I'm not in a rush to be a guinea pig for reopening.

I see your point. But, to be fair, New Zealand never had the amount of cases the US, NY in particular had. The 5 boroughs and Nassau/Suffolk alone had more cases than entire countries. It would take many, many more months, possibly longer, for us to reach zero. Also, NYC is the international hub of the world. New Zealand? Not so much. So, while I do agree with you, and I think it would be wonderful if we were able to get the same result, I do not think it is possible here. I wear a mask whenever I am supposed to, and will not stop. I do not find it rude. I don't love them, but I will wear them forever if it means life as normal.

Which is wonderful, and our lowest numbers yet. Looks like the protests shouldn't have too much of an effect on our numbers *hopefully*. It is 100% possible to flatten the curve, we did it. But a case number of 0 will never happen here, not with how hard we were hit. I am not saying that means keep restrictions forever. I am just saying we can't compare a place like NYC to the entire country of New Zealand. Their peak was 89 cases in one day- for a whole country.

NY as of 6/9 was down to 674.
