Where can I get good furniture on the cheap...NOT from a chain store

is there a store like TJ Maxx or something that sells nice furniture?

I dont' like Raymour & Flannigan or any chain-y store like that that has the same sets for different prices...

I am looking for french country-ish stuff...farmers tables (with the big butcher block top and the like)

can someone help me! Chat Icon

everything I like is breaking my budget Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Homegoods. There is one in Port Washington. You'd have to check often, but you may find a gem or two.

I know you don't like chains, but the Pottery Barn outlet in Riverhead might be worth checking out for things like the big table.

I would def hit TJ Maxx and Home Goods, you can get very lucky there. Just find out when they get new stuff in and hit both stores.

Peter Andrews has gorgeous stuff also, not the cheapest place but you can find a deal here and there.

Craigs List also

Check "The Place" in Coram. It's kind of a chain, but cheaper than the high-end stuff. We found nice furniture in there over the weekend

Yes the Home goods is right above Walmart/Home Depot/BJ's next to Target.

ohhh forgot about Ten Railroad! We went there once, Spanish flavors - was good Chat Icon
Yes Chat Icon Wawick, its actually were we originally looked, but compromised on where we are now.

I was going to suggest The Country Life for furniture also, did you hit it up while walking through the village? They can be pricey, but boy they have some real nice pieces.

Also Frazzleberries (gift shop/furniture) has some nice stuff. Alot displayed is more folk country in the dark colors, but I know MaryBeth has someone who makes the furniture and can tailor it to any color scheme you like!

Yes Cosimos is a favorite - The one right next to Woodbury Commons, there are others Middletown, Newburgh. We should have a GTG! Chat Icon

Also worth a walk through is Chamfered - its an antiques store/gift shop. Courtney and her hubby restore old furniture and make alot of it themselves from reclaimed barnwood. Never know what you'll find, they are always working on something and many times it doesn't even make it into the store before someone snatches it up!

restoration hardware in coming to Riverhead in late August too.

There is a store in Bohemia( LI) called bare boards that has awesome stuff, much less than PB

I agree with trying craigslist, I often see furniture STEALS on there.

Also check out BJ's Sams, Costco etc. I don't think Habitat has furniture-just fixtures-at least the ones I've been in

add this one to your list too. We got our couch here, its not a chain only one store.

Customer service was great, delivery was exactly when they said it would be.
I got to choose the fabrics for the couch and pillows from literally a wall of a hundred of swatches.

There's a store on Montauk Hwy in Lindenhurst called Zimmerman's - basically all country-type furniture. Seems to be good quality at reasonable prices.

Re: Where can I get good furniture on the cheap...NOT from a chain store

Since you're in brooklyn, you might want to check out a fantastic little store in Long Island City on Vernon Boulevard.

Nook n Crannie - They sell the contents of estate sales at really low prices, and all of their profits go to Drug and Alchohol treatment programs. It's run by the Betel foundation.

We used to live around the corner from the store and I went in literally every other day. We had amazing success there. They dont carry loads of french country per se, they have a lot of mid century modern and late 19th, early 20th century (1900-1930s) pieces. But I've seen some french country sideboards and armoires a number of times there.

Their stuff changes all the time - I remember one time they had a vintage Eames recliner (normally would go for around $8,000) and were selling it for like $1500 - I went back the next day to buy it and it was gone.

We bought a dining room table there with 3 leaves and 8 shield back chairs for $800. My uncle was a really successful antiques dealer in Massachusetts and saw our set and told us that the chairs normally go for $800-$1000 a chair!

They also have a store in Astoria, but I've never been there.
