Is that place still open on the South Service Rd just before exit 46 (I think!) before PC Richards and Sons on the Service Rd?
Pieces For The Home, I'm not sure whether or not they are still there. I vaguely recall hearing that they had moved to another location.

Homegoods. There is one in Port Washington. You'd have to check often, but you may find a gem or two.
I know you don't like chains, but the Pottery Barn outlet in Riverhead might be worth checking out for things like the big table.
My mom's friend is an interior decorator and she told me that Home Goods gets all of its new stuff in on Tuesday mornings and its usually put out by the afternoon.
I was at the PB outlet recently and they had some really nice stuff for very reasonable prices as well. The only problem is that they don't deliver so you have to go out there with a big enough vehicle for what you want.
HTH!

I agree with homegoods, I got a gorgeous table made from a farm door... we have also found some one of a kind pieces at peter andrews- and at craft fairs in the hudson valley (cannot think of exactly where!)
