Where can you get the swine flu vaccine, if your doctor doesn't have it

Not a debate thread... I just want to know if one does want the vaccination (not for a child, for an adult), where can you get it? Wasn't sure what board to post this on.

I was told ask my pharmacy, but I googled CVS and it says it's giving free shots to the unemployed. If someone is employed I want to know what options they have.

TIA.

I live in NJ and I know that different towns and counties are going to be having clinics where people can go to get the H1N1 shot (once it is actually available).

Try checking the health departments for your town to see what they say.

This seems to be a problem.

At my DH's PCP they had a sign up to complain to your elected officials as doctors aren't getting enough vaccines (or any at all) yet major chain pharmacies are getting as many as they like.

Thiis whole thing is ridiculous. MY DD's ped doesn't have it yet. PLus I have a 3 month old and I have had lung sugery so I fall into 2 priority groups and I can't find a way to get this vaccine yet all the universities are holding vaccine clinics for the students.

I feel your pain. I have a 3 month old who cannot be vaccinated till January the earliest and as I'll discuss, there's a genetic link to breathing problems on my side of the family. My 18 month old DID get the swine vac from her pediatrician, BUT they don't have the SEASONAL vaccine and we are on a waiting list. My older baby has a history of wheezing, and febrile Seizures from high fever. I am seeking the swine vaccine for myself and my husband. I have adult onset asthma and with the new baby we are also a priority family, but I called CVS and they said they don't have it and are not offering it. I'm also concerned about the availability of the ped vaccine b/c even though my older baby got swine #1, she's going to need a second shot in a few weeks and I have to hope they don't run out. I also work in an environment that puts me at risk - in and out of doctor's offices all day. Lastly, my kids will most likely start daycare this winter. So all around, they really need to make these vaccines more available now that they've drawn the public's attention to the concern.

I love how getting enough vaccines wasn't a priority for our gov't, but spreading swine flu panic was....

Walgreens says to call next week they might have it by then or know when it will come in. Other stores are getting it - but for the most part I don't think they will be in until next week or the following week. Just call some of the places that offer the flu shot (although I believe walgreens isn't offering the seasonal flu shot anymore).

Re: Where can you get the swine flu vaccine, if your doctor doesn't have it

I posted this info a few weeks ago, I will do a search. I couldn't get the regular Flu shot for my 1 year old anywhere.

I called Suffolk County Department of Health. They sent me to a clinic that was being held in a church basement in Bayshore.

It was for children and adults with no insurance coverage, or for people with insurance that wanted to pay out of pocket. It cost $22.16 for Brody.

They also had the Swine Flu Mist. It is effective for ages 2- adult. They said that they would be getting the actual shot in a few weeks.

So, basically what they told me, is that the govt gives the state/counties a certain number of shots for people that they consider high risk- those below the poverty level and those with no insurance.

We have insurance, so I would have never known these vaccines where available if I hadn't called the Dept of Health.

They were in Bayshore at Saint Patrick's Church this week, and are going to more sites out east.

I will try to find my original post. Don't give uup, there are shots available, you just have to find them.
