Re: Where do you ladies pump at work??

I work at a University and pump in an empty office. I have my own office but I share it (attached to each other with a door) with a professor so I don't have the privacy unless she's away, so they gave me a key that I can go into any time I need to. That's where I'm headed now.

I have to say... I HATE PUMPING with a passion!!! I prefer nursing so much more! Chat Icon

Setting the machine up, taking it down, cleaning up, etc. I hate it!!!

I would pump in an empty room with your back towards the door, just in case someone comes in. Would you feel comfortable making up a sign that says "Private -- Please do not disturb" or something like that? Does the door lock?

We have a nurse's office, that is where I pump.

ETA: you are brave just going in blind like that LOL I called three times before I came back to make sure that there was an available spot! I was so annoying!

Re: Where do you ladies pump at work??

I had my own office. HR had blinds and a lock put on the door for me. We always had an open door policy.

Once you get used to it -- its not so bad. It is the only time that NO ONE can bother me LOL

Plus, think of it this way - this is the MOST you will have to pump! It will get less and less. DD is 7m and I pump 4x a day and only 1x at work! By next month I should be down to 3x a day and so on!

Re: Where do you ladies pump at work??

talk to your HR department- they should find you a place- that's what I did. I pump in the HR conference room- it has no windows, has a table, outlet and a door that locks-plus the department is all female so I dont feel as weird

Luckily we have a "Mother's Room" at my job complete with a schedule for all the pumping moms, a fridge, a comfy chair with pillow and tons of magazines.

ditto- they are required to give you a place to pumo so talk to them about where you should go. Chances are someone else has pumped at your workplace before.

I get a separate bathroom with a chair, outlet and sink that I can use. You need a key to get in and it would be great except some of the building men have keys and have left the bathroom with a horrible stench! I put up a sign over the toilet that days "Please don't dump where I pump" -a nursing mother. It's been better since but I know they still use it!

Re: Where do you ladies pump at work??

Maria, they're suppose to have a place for you to be able to do that. Check HR!

i agree with PP they are suppose to have somewhere for you to pump. My office just created a room and I am assuming they also have to have a fridge in there also cause the one at my office has one.

Re: Where do you ladies pump at work??

I pumped in a supply closet because it was close to my desk and fridge. I could have pumped in a conference room though. Don't be embarrased to ask for a room with a lock though.

Re: Where do you ladies pump at work??

I work in a school and when I was BFing, I would pump in a supply closet. There was a table in the "closet/room". My co-worker and I made a sign for the door that said, "please do not disturb." You will have to talk with someone at the company so people are aware and they have to set up an acceptable place to pump.

Re: Where do you ladies pump at work??

it's a federal law that every employer is supposed to provide you with a room that has running water (that is NOT a bathroom) and they are to provide this room to you for 2 years of pumping. they are also supposed to accommodate you as far as the time to pump (whether it is paid or unpaid) . you need to speak to your HR

.law
