Where do you spend your holidays? Your family or inlaws?

Just curious how you ladies split up your holiday time.

50-50? Closer proximity? Do you and DH ever split up for the holidays?

luckily my MIL comes to my mom's house for thanksgiving, so we are only going to make 1 stop. Plus my mom is about 10-15 minutes away.

DH and I never split up for the holidays

Its dif every year! This year everyone is going to be local. The inlaws are going to be a few blocks away from our apartment, and my family is going to a restaurant 15 minutes away. So it works out.

Last year we went to Queens...thats a long ride home filled with traffic and car sickness lol

ILs are divorced, so I have to split in three. -

Thanksgiving dinner is @ my Mom's - We go to his Uncle's house (FIL's side) for drinks before dinner (about 2 hrs)
MIL is invited to my Mom's EVERY year, and every year chooses to be alone, and make us have dinner w/ her over the weekend .......

Christmas Eve is MINE and I will not give it up. -
Christmas Day we go to MIL's for dinner, and I was previously doing a brunch in the morning for FIL's side.....but I told DH it's just TOO much that day and I don't get to enjoy anything - So this year I suggested we do dinner over the weekend after Christmas instead. (The weekend before we celebrate my Bday and I'm not interested in doing THAT w/ FIL's family!!)

With the inlaws this yr.

This year I'll be with my family in Florida. In past years it had been with the in-laws.

usually it's at my parents house all the time but this year we are doing Thanksgiving at my parents and Christmas at his parents they live in SC

we change up thanksgiving and easter every year. one of them is with myside and one is with dh's side.

xmas eve is with dh's side, xmas day is with myside.

so i guess 50 50

Thanksgiving is different every year (last yr was my house this yr is SIL)

Christmas eve is always my family
Christmas day is always ILs

We split the day amongst both families.

Not ideal, but it is the compromise we have come to.

To be honest I would totally be ok with each of us spending the holidays with our families independently. I have so much fun with my family, it is a fun, festive, warm, loving atmosphere.

My inlaws do not make any effort at all to make the holidays well a holiday lol. However that is my DH's family so he has the right to see them, so I have to go along,but do not like it.

my parents just moved to FL so this thanksgiving we are going to be with IL's..just the MIL and FIL....christmas eve is usually big with the IL's and then we spend xmas with mine...this yr though we are going to spend xmas and xmas eve in fl at my parents new house...easter not even sure of yet lol i will proably have had the twins by then and will do whatever i am up to....possibly take out and pajamas.....hehe

We are splitting this year since we are renovating and are not hosting at all. Everyone lives on LI that we visit. Any of the OOT family comes to LI.

We alternate families for Thanksgiving, this year is dh's family.
Christmas Eve is dh's side and Christmas day is my family

we alternate Thanksgiving & Easter.

Christmas Eve is ALWAYS with my family - as it's our ONLY family tradition....and after Christmas breakfast - we head out to Dave's family in Jersey.

We NEVER split up...with the way dave's job is - his ONLY days off WITH ME are holidays - and there is no way i'd sacrifice some of the only times i can be with him for a full day.

(his days off are tuesday and friday and naturally, i work those days - so we never get a full day together unless it's a holiday)

We do both but on different days, my in-laws are about an hour away, not too far, but far enough to make doing both families in one day too much.

Christmas we do Christmas Eve with one family and Christmas Day with the other.

Thanksgiving usually breakfast with my inlaws, however, this year they are away. We'll be home here for breakfast and go to my parents for dinner.

Christmas Eve: My parents
Christmas Day: Inlaws

They all live close, so, no big traveling.

Thanksgiving and Easter have been toss ups the last few years

Christmas Eve - my fam
Christmas- his fam

but we never split up

I cant wait to have a house so i can have a holiday!

We host Thanksgiving every year, so everyone comes to us.

Thankfully since most Jewish holidays are multiple days, we don't have to switch off. We'll do one day with my family and another day with DH's family.

We alternate dinner for the holiday every year and then go to the other house for desert. We would never split up, but we are lucky that our families are only 15 minutes apart.

We alternate Thanksgiving, so this year we should be at my ILs but since DH is working into tomorrow morning and then has to go back to work tomorrow night we decided that it would be best to go to my family since they are closer to home.

Xmas Eve - My Family
Xmas Day - DH's Family (if he is not working)

New Years Eve - My Family
New Years Day - ILs (if DH is not working)

All the other holidays we are with my family.

We do Thanksgiving with my family and go to DH's family the Saturday after. We both work the Friday after and they are 1 1/2 from our home.

Christmas Eve is with DH's family
Christmas Day is with my family

Easter is usually with my family, too.

We might have to make some adjustments once the baby comes. Maybe do breakfast on Thanksgiving with DH's family. His mom is a horrible cook so I would much rather not do dinner.

Once we have our own house we can host too.

well, DH is catholic and I am Jewish so the religous holidays are easy

Thanksgiving my family eats early and his eats late so we will go to my parents and then his sister's house

New Year's Eve - early dinner with my family - midnight with his
New year's day we stay home together

When we were in NY, Thanksgiving was ALWAYS at my moms. She is the master cook and her table is no joke. Christmas Eve is with my family. The big Italian Christmas. Christmas Day with his family.

DH and I host Thanksgiving at our house and his family and my family are together

Christmas Eve is at MIL and FIL's house- but my parents are always invited and they always go

Christmas Day is at my cousin's house in Queens- we are with my family, not DH's family... BUT, next year since we are going to have our DD, we might host Christmas for our immediate family- who knows...

Easter- we are usually together- once it was at my house, once at MIL's , sometimes we go out- it is random

Most holidays we are able to spend with both sides- I am an only child and our parents get along well- and DH basically has a small family ... so it is easy to combine

My house everything always at my house.. Both sides come.. Everyone decides if they are going to there in laws or here.. But my Dh wont go anywhere else and he loves to cook.. Hopefully after the baby comes he will cut the SH!T!! Its alot of work... Especially Christmas eve and Christmas day!
