I would never move to a red state.
I also needed a major city and an ocean...that's why san diego was a perfect match for us.

Anywhere that is really hot. I can't stand it here in the summer with the heat and humidity so I wouldn't fare well in the Southern U.S.!

Detroit is bad. But parts of Michigan are really really REALLY nice.

I would not want to move from NY period. I am a hometown girl. Love to travel, do it often, but NY is where it is at for me.
But the worst would probably be somewhere like Utah...I mean what is in Utah

I actually liked the Salt Lake City area a lot! Yes there is a very strong presence of religious people, but a great counter culture! My biggest complaint.... their alcohol has a lower proof!
I had a friend from North Dakota that would always say that she was jealous of all the people that lived in S Dakota because "That's where all the cool stuff was" 
FTR There has been more snow here on LI the last 2 winters, than I ever saw in Wyoming, Salt Lake City, and Grand Junction CO. COMBINED!

The midwest, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Utah, Dakotas..
Basically not anywhere that doesn't have a coast.

I can't be anywhere that's not a reasonable distance from the ocean
I can't do a lot of rain
I don't belong in the Bible belt
