Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
While in L&D last night the nurse practitioner said "well he'll be in a bassinet in your room for the first few months" to which I said "no he's going straight into the crib. We're in a 2 bedroom apt and the rooms are right next to each other." She made a face (which I thought was a little rude being that she doesn't know how the apt is set up or if I even have room for DS in our room) but it got me thinking...am I the only one who is putting their LO right into a crib? Did anyone do this with their other DC and it was totally fine?

Re: Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
We kept my son in a bassinet in our bedroom for about the first 8 weeks. This was more for my convenience than anything else. It was so much easier to just reach over and grab him and feed him and pump every 3 hours than to have to walk down the hall.
I do not think there is anything wrong with starting baby out in a crib though. You do what works for you, your DH, and your house!

our son will be in our bedroom indefinitely but that's only b/c we are in a 1 bedroom apartment. my best friend put her little boy in his crib in his own room from their first night home and it was fine! i agree with the pp that you should do what works for you!

Tiny Tot slep in our room next to me in her rock and play.
I started putting her in her crib when she was 8 weeks old.
I know some who have put their LO in the crib since day one.
Do what works best for you

I said I was going to put DD in the crib as soon as we got home, but once she was here, I just wanted her next to me. So, she slept in the RNP for the 1st 6 months right next to our bed.

Same here! She is 4 months and still in our room in the pack and play. I put her in her room in her crib for daytime naps. I would like her sleeping in her own room in another month it two.

LO will be sleeping in the rock and play next to our bed until we're ready/he's ready to go into his crib across the hall.
I can't rationalize spending more $ on something he's going to be using temporarily.
Do what is best for you.

Re: Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
I have a bassinet that the baby will sleep in, so I probably won't register for a Rock and Play or anything else. I'll wait to see what the baby wants.
If baby takes to the crib right away, what's the problem? Better to start them in it sooner than later.

Re: Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
we will use the rock & play in our bedroom for the first few months and then switch to the crib. We will probably use crib for some naps but not for at night in the beginning.
its whatever you feel comfortable with!

Re: Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
I am not sure yet. I was thinking about only doing 6 weeks in the room with us. My husband is a chef and works crazy hours so I think I might end up BF in the babies room so I might end up having the baby in the crib sooner than I think. We have an empty bedroom right next to ours so we will be making that a nursery.

I will probably put her in a bassinet next to my bed for the first 3 months then the crib. I'm having a csection and her nursery is not right next to our room. I'm afraid of the rock and play due to fear she may not transition well.

We're planning to use the bassinet portion of the playard at first, but I've heard of other people going straight to the crib.

Basinet for the first 8 or so weeks then the crib for us.
But, do whatever you feel is best for your family.

DS slept in the rnp next to me for 4 mos, then in our bed til 15mos, now sleeps in his crib which is next to our bed. If I wasn't pregnant, he'd still cuddle with me all night long. Lol I just don't want him out of my sight. EVER!

Re: Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
We live in a 2 bedroom co-op and the nursery will be right next to our room but I'm going to have the babies in bassinets in our room at first. I just think it will be easier to have them with us since I'm not sure how long it will take to get them both on the same schedule.

In the cosleeper in our room for the first few months. After that, we'll transition her to the nursery.

Re: Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
We are going straight for the crib. Too many of my friends had transitioning issues so we are in a 2 bed apt and its not a huge walk for me to get her

She slept in her crib starting her 2nd day back from the hospital. We also live in a 2BR, with rooms adjacent to each other. I never even considered any other sleeping arrangement.

we put DD in a bassinet in our room bc of convenience - then at 7 weeks she went to her crib. we are in a 2 bedroom apartment and her room is right next to mine but it was so much easier for me to get back to sleep when i was able to just feed her in bed and put her down instead of getting up each time.

Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
I'm borrowing a bassinet for the first few weeks or months. My intention is to BF, so I've heard this will be helpful. The nursery is right across my our bedroom, so I may transition to the crib sooner than later, esp since DH will need to go back to work after 2 weeks and I don't want to keep him up all night.

a bassinet is just easier usually because they are at arms length - you are up so many times to feed them, the last thing you want is to have to add more times getting up to put a binkie back in their mouth or even just to "check" on them. I cant tell you how many times (as a new mom) I woke up just to put my hand on her chest to check if she was breathing lol

i think its great to go straight to a crib! one less transition we are in a one bedroom, so DD was in the living room from day one - she was in a bassinet for three months so we had more space but then a crib, but she never slept in our room! it worked out so well we will be doing the same thing with this baby, straight to the living room!

There is no way the baby's room is going to be done in time because we are in a 2-bedroom house, and our 2nd bedroom is an office. My husband is an architect and has a LOT of stuff- drafting table, plotter, an area where he builds models, plus both of our computers, and bookshelves. We are trying to figure out where to put all the stuff to make room for Baby! That is the only reason he/she will be in our room in the beginning... but otherwise we would have done the same.

Re: Where is your baby sleeping when coming home from the hospital?
You can plan all you want, but it'll really depend on when the baby arrives. We wanted DS in a bassinet in our room, which lasted 1 night. He NEVER slept in it. So we slept him in a swing for a few weeks, but I wasn't sleeping well with him in our room. At a few weeks old he put him in the crib in his own room (with a baby monitor) and never looked back. Don't worry about it so much now. You'll figure it out when you have to!
