Here's my dilemma:
DH likes the Subaru better.
I like the Saab better.
Both have the same horsepower, both are turbo-charged, but only the Subaru is AWD. The Saab is front-wheel drive (not a big deal to me though).
The Saab has everything I want though including a nav option which I use ALL the time in the SUV, and also has a 6-speed which I prefer. The Subaru has neither of these things.
But, the Saab is $10k more. DH can't justify spending that much more just for those 2 things, plus looks.
I told him if I'm going to be driving a wagon, it had better be a "cool" looking wagon (if you can call any wagon "cool").
To me, the Saab is the only wagon that has the looks, the options, and for a decent price (even if it IS at the top end of our budget).

Ah, see that brings up a good point. Knowing DH, he'll want to get rid of the car in 3 years and get a new one. He has a thing for buying new cars. I don't. I'd much rather keep the car until well after it's paid off, and have no payments for a while.
Thanks for adding another point to my argument 
And Saab has a better service plan than Subaru! Plus if you need a loaner, they give you an Infiniti. Not bad!

Okay - so I didn't base it solely on appearance. I just know people that have Suburu's and love them. I don't know anything about Saab's. They do look very similar though.

Just as an FYI - (I work for an automotive company that manufactures one of these vehicles...) these 2 cars are based off of the same platform so they are essentially the same vehicle. Auto companies like to do this to save $$$ so they don't have to design a bunch of different cars.
I don't know if it makes a difference but I thought I'd offer up this tidbit...

I have #2 in the sedan. I know that Subaru are supposed to perform really well, but I have never driven one. #2, on the other hand, is sweet
Also, I got a great lease deal on mine, for the same as the lease on a Honda.

Yup, GM owns Saab and has a partnership with Subaru so the "bones" of the car are the same. They change it a little bit so that you can't tell. Its like how the VW toureg and the Porshe Cayenne are the same exact car. When you marry an automotive engineer you hear way more about cars that you ever wanted to

The Posche and the Toureg I can totally see. But I'll have to keep my lips zipped about the Subaru and the Saab, because then DH wins
But thanks for the info! And I hear ya about getting an earful about cars; DH races his car, and all he talks about is turbos and crap like that

I don't think you will regret either one. I would look on consumer resports and see which one is rated higher and base my decision on that.
my DH has a WRX and LOVES it. and he's a car fanatic!! he's trying to convince me to get a Subaru.

Did you test drive them? You can't get much safter than the Saab. It has air bags and curtains all over the inside. I moved from an SUV and was concerned about driving it in the snow, but it handles beautifully. I have the auto, but it has 2 manual gears that you can switch it into for extra traction in bad weather.
I drove the Mazda at the same time, because I actually wanted a hatchback, but I went for the Saab for many reasons. I guess it depends on what's really the top of your list.
ETA: We got rid of my DH's 13-year old Saab with 260K miles to get mine.

That's kinda cute! I just looked at it real quick, and I know what DH is going to say, that it "only" has 215 hp and no turbo

Yup - test drove both and both drove well. Although I test drove the automatic Saab because they didn't have a 6-speed for me to test drive.
They're both pretty fast for wagons! And handle nicely too. There's just no snow right now to test them on
But I drove nothing other than front-wheel drive manual cars for over 13 years.

My DH and your DH would get along very well - has the equivalent of the WRX (the Mitsu Lancer Evo MR) and he's a car fanatic too
