which is more of an indication- dilation or effacement?
I know that everyone is different, but I was just wondering what you girls thought. Do you think that dilation or effacement is more a sign of oncoming labor? I had an internal today and I was 50% effaced, baby in the -1 station, but no dilation.

When are you due? I know sometimes you can be dilated for a while but the baby is still high. I was 90% effaced when I got to the hospital to have my son, and I had him less than 12 hours later. I dilated very quickly after that!

I also think effacement and station. I think that means how far down they but not sure.

I'm going with effacement. You can be dialted for weeks (I was with Maddie). When the lining thins out, that baby is coming.

I'm due three weeks from today, but I'm hoping he comes out a little early because he's pretty big and I'm hoping for a vaginal delivery.

Def. effacement and station. You can dilate all you want but if your cervix is still thick and the head is up high your baby's not coming.

Re: which is more of an indication- dilation or effacement?
Well, we all thought my little bugger was coming early but no go.........I was about 95% effaced, 1cm dialated and at +1 station at 35 weeks (I was put in the hospital for fear of early labor until 36 weeks). I stayed almost fully effaced the whole time and at 37 weeks I went to 2cm, 38 weeks 3cm and a few days before my dd I was 4cm and she sent me to the hospital. I didn't actually go into labor until they broke my water at the hospital.
Every time I went to the dr I asked if it was going to be soon and she kept saying you never know, you never know
