Odd man out. I would want the laundry on the 2nd floor.
me too lol i never thought about leaks but the idea of not having to carry up laundry is heaven!
If they do a second floor laundry right they will do a drain pan so if the laundry leaks it goes down the pan and doesn't flood the first floor.
Second floor laundry is awesome. I originally had laundry in the basement. When I did the construction on my house I did a second floor laundry but I also decided to leave the existing W/D in the basement so I have two sets of W/D. Usually when we do laundry it's done on the second floor machines. But if we have a ton of laundry to do at once or if you have a large family, you will have the option of running both sets of washer/dryers at the same time eliminating the time needed to do laundry in half.
That is brilliant--I live in a co-op & hate going out to do an exterior laundry room to do my laundry, but it is great being able to use 2 washers at once.
I would also fear 2nd floor leaks, but if it really isn't an issue & you really think you'd use it up there, I'd go for it since you have the walls open. Floors are easier to do later.

I have a second story laundry room and its the best thing since sliced bread/ It has a pan so if there is leak it empty's to the basement sink.

Re: Which would you rather spend $$ on?
I was going to say laundry at first (I don't worry about leaks as much as others I guess); but as one PP stated, if you will be spending the majority of your time on the 1st floor, then it will be inconvenient to get it done if it is upstairs...unless you end up actually carrying the laundry DOWN to fold it. Maybe if the walls are still up, you can add a chute from upstairs to down for the laundry. That's what I'd love!

Are you planning on selling soon? If not I would do the 2nd floor laundry room since the walls are open already. The floor you can do as your next project.
