Re: While you are at work is your dog...
chester is crated, and probably always will be. he suffers from seperation anxiety. the one time we left him out, he peed and pooped on our bedspread, got up on the kitchen tabel and ate half a tray of brownies that was on there, got up on the dining room table, etc.... so he doesn't like the crate too much, but its much safer for him, and better for our house he is about 4 years old, and is still like this, so i'm pretty sure he won't outgrow it. luckily, i work at a school thats close by, so i don't have a super long workday, and sometimes can come home for lunch...

Free to roam.
However, we have the office door closed and the guest room door is always closed

free roam of the house. We usually close the bathroom door though. he has a habit of shredding toilet paper!

She's free to roam. But it took until she was about a year old before she could be trusted. Before that, she was crated, and we'd have someone go in during the day to walk her.

Outside in the fenced in backyard. If it's raining or cold they are inside with free roam of the house. They have never tried to jump the fence and since it's the two of them they keep each other company on the back deck all day. Dh comes home for lunch so they are not usually alone for more then a few hours at a time.
