I'm with State Farm.
Used to have Geico, but switched and saved.
I have heard from a couple of friends that have worked at Geico that it is great for a cut-rate company until you get into an accident. The claims department is awful. In order to spend on the large amount of marketing and offer low rates, they treat their employees like cr@p. They under-hire and overwork their employees. The last number I heard was that they turn over 60% of their claims employees each year, leaving very few experienced reps.
So...moral of the story is if you go with Geico, just make sure you never have an accident, especially not one that is any part your fault.
This isn't true at all. I deal with them a lot through my job with accidents and they are the most reasonable company when it comes to claims and pay out.
I know a lot of people say they are not pleased with Geico, but I've had it for years and always had great luck and service. They were always on the ball about things and I never got screwed...even when I hit DH's car when was backing out of our driveway.
Me too, I've had no problems with them at all, and I've made a number of claims. I also had a friend that was an actuary for them, and had no complaints.

I was in an accident (no fault - I was rear ended) and Geico was AWESOME! They processed my claim ASAP and in the end, I ended up getting more money than we even paid for our car! (I was hit 2 months after buying a new car) I thought they did a great job, I have no complaints about Geico.

Re: who is the best cheapest/ car insurance
I have had both Geico & Allstate which I was always happy with.
I have Allstate now and it has been the cheapest for me... and excellent coverage. They also have "accident forgiveness" which helped when I got into my car accident earlier this spring.

Re: who is the best cheapest/ car insurance
There is no "cheap" auto insurance, you have to shop around to see what works for YOU because some quotes will vary depending on which insurance company you're using, if your car is garaged, the neighborhood you're living in, miles/yr driven, especially for work, and the car you're driving, etc., etc., etc..
Oh and how many drivers in the family, especially if you have single males under age 25...
For me, GEICO was cheap when I was single and living in Queens, but not as cheap as Travelers (who we switched to now) where we are married and insure 4 vehicles in Long Island for the price what I used to pay in Queens.

i use esurance. very cheap and great service!
dh switched last year to esurance - he saved about half what he was paying before. I read some not so good things about them thats why i made him put off switching to them. we get into a hit and run accident last year and we all have to be taken to the hospital. i was so impressed with how esurance handled the claim. they paid everything even paid for a new car seat.

State Farm
But yes, there is no "cheap" insurance.
Everyones situation is different (drivers, accidents/violations, etc) and sometimes you get what you pay for.

Re: who is the best cheapest/ car insurance
My car is insured through State Farm, my DH's through Geico. Every year when his comes up for renewal we get a quote from State Farm. Every year we would save @ $100 if DH would switch, (it would give us a multi-car discount together with the homeowners insurance to get the savings) and every year he waits until the last minute and renews Geico online.
I do have higher coverage amounts with State Farm than he has with Geico. To get the same coverage on his car that I have on mine our rates would increase regardless of which company we use.

Re: who is the best cheapest/ car insurance
Amica
Little known but great saver NO deposit required DIVIDENDS every year if you want or upfront savings 12 month policy with only 10 payments so two months with no payment but full coverage
I've had 3 claims with them and they were GREAT!
I've heard so much bs about other companies. No towing, no rental, delays in claims, blah blah, 6mo policies (aka possible rate increases mid way)
Only draw back is they usually only accept super duper clean folks. I had to marry my hubby for his car to be insured
