Who pays for dinner?

When you go to dinner with your parents or your SO's parents, who typically pays (holidays, birthdays, etc excluded)? I know there may be times where one side will pay instead of the other, but what is typical for your family?

Re: Who pays for dinner?

When we go out to dinner with my parents, they tend to pay. Only a couple times in the past decade have they let us pay.

When we go out to dinner with my MIL we always pay. She doesn't make much money, and I'd feel bad having her pay for herself.

As for FIL and his girlfriend, we have never been out to dinner with them ever, cause well...they suuck.

We usually split it, unless we're taking them out for a special occasion (or vice versa).

Re: Who pays for dinner?

In-laws almost always pay, they never let us. We had to force MIL to let us take her out to dinner for her birthday.

My mom-we usually pay, she has less.

Considering we go out twice a week with my parents (Friday dinner and Sunday breakfast), we split the bill.

me too, our parents have trouble letting us pay. We're very grateful & try to return their generosity in some other way.

Re: Who pays for dinner?

90% of the time our parents pay. Both DH and mine.
10% Dh and I treat them to dinner. We love that we CAN do this and our parents love it too. The first time DH did this, the pride was tangible in the air from both DH and his parents.

This doesn't count the endless dinners that we have at all of our houses.

My parents always pay except for when we specifically take them out. DH's parents (when we were speaking to them) would never pay...the bill always got split down to the penny...oh wait...they did treat at the chinese buffet onceChat Icon

Our parents always try to pay. On occasion we get the bill paid first. I taught my DH the "I'll be right back" thing where you track down your waiter/waitress & pay the bill before your guest.

Re: Who pays for dinner?

Before my Dad passed away, my parents always paid. they would never let us. Now when we take my mom out to dinner, we pay. But most of the time we have argue with her or grab the bill first.

Re: Who pays for dinner?

When we go out with my parents - they always pay.

When we go out with my ILs, it's divided - sometimes the bill is split in half and we each pay for our own dish, or sometimes they foot the bill.
