Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
some days i wish i was a SAHM... but in the end, i love my career and couldn't picture myself not doing it. so i'll probably take a few months off after this baby and then go back to work.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I would love to me, but honestly I bring hom 50% of our pay and we couldn't live without it. Fortunately or unfortunately, I still make a more than what Child care would cost. We couldn't survive on one paycheck.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I will only stay home until May (due in december.) I will work for two months, have the summer off and then in September, go back to a regular schedule. I carry the benefits pl,us my paycheck is steady, good money. And I like my job!

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I will probably be back to work 4-6 months after baby is born. We need my salary and I enjoy my job.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I wish! DH is a SAHD during the day and then he works PT evenings after I get home from work. Soon he will have 2 little ones to care for. It works for us.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I'm pretty sure I will be. DH really wants me to and I pretty much hate my job and commute so we're going to try it..it's something I have always wanted to do

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I know I won't be going back to my current job, but we can't afford for me to not work. I will try to freelance and maybe get a part time job locally.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
My plan (always subject to change) is to reduce my hours to 3/4 time so I can be home by 3 or 4pm everyday.
I found an in-home daycare just 1/2 mile from my office that I really like and my parents live about a mile from my office and my mom will watch the baby most of the time. However, she still works so we would need someone else for the days she has to be in court.
I think we've found a pretty good solution for us. I like my job and I really want to be able to keep it long term so this should work out pretty well.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
i would love to be, but we can't really afford it and i have all the medical benefits. if dh gets a new job (he's looking) and it's awesome, then we could open up the discussion again.
luckily, i'm a teacher and the baby's due the first week of june, so i'll have the whole summer before i have to go back and there are a lot of good childcare places right next to my job. i'm hoping i can change jobs over the summer too so i can get back to what i would really like to be doing... but that's another story.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
while I am not working f/t now-- I am freelancing, I plan to take a year fully off after the baby gets here.
I plan to look for another f/t job after we move-- which will hopefully be this time next year, as I refuse to commute to Manhattan and work the hours required for my field at agencies in the city. I am hoping that a job in the burbs will afford a better work/life balance.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
Not me. I make more $$ than DH, carry the health insurance and have a pension. Even if I had the option, I dont think I would.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I work part time now (37 hours every 2 weeks) so when #2 arrives i'll be taking 6 months off and then i hsve to go back to maintain my position-- we'll see how it works out emotionally- there's always FMLA.. But- i can say honestly being home with my son for 4 months, i REALLY needed to get back to work- i craved the adult time.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
One of the reasons we moved south was so that I'd have the option of being a SAHM if I wanted to. But I'm really not sure I could handle it--I've been out on disability almost 3 months and I'm already going crazy not having that daily schedule to stick to.
I may wind up taking the rest of the school year off, but I'll definitely be going back to work next year.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I truly wish I could. But I carry the health insurance, and I also work for the government so I dont really wanna lost my time in and pension. And financially it wouldn't be a smart choice.
I will however probably work from home 2 days. And my mom is gonna watch he baby so at least I wont be paying daycare.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
Well, my original plan was to go back to work after Shaylie is born and have my parents watch her, but my job had other plans for me as of yesterday My parents are encouraging me to stay home, since I'll still have money coming in with unemployment . Everything is still fresh and new and I just have no clue of how long I'm going to be home.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
i am DYING to be a stay at home mom. i will have enourmous guilt leaving an infant in day care. i don't know what we're going to do. we're comfortable with both salaries, but can't meet the mortgage and other bills on just one. i am hoping i can go back part-time or i'll win the lotto and can stay home with the baby for at least a year. my job gives me the time, it's just the moeny i'm worried about.

Re: Who will be a SAHM?...
I am a teacher- although Dh and I could swing it with me being a SAHM, we would not be able to have the same lifestyle we do now-
Fortunately, I will be taking the 12 weeks off- and that takes me to almost the end of the school year- I will return to work but DD will be home with my mom for a few weeks and DH for the other weeks- then I am home for the summer- By the time she has to go to daycare she will be 6 months old.
I found a daycare extremely close to my house that I really like- Is it being home with me?...not at all, but it is a good compromise. I like the owner a lot (former teacher) and I like that she will be interacting with other babies- plus, the daycare only takes 4 infants at a time...

I will go back after 6 months - I 'could' stay home, but we agreed it was best for our family for me to work - I honestly don't think I would be a very good mother if I was a SAHM
what she said...but I will return to work after 4 months or so...
