WHose responsible for trimming the tree? LIPA?

We have a tree in the backyard that has a power wire resting on the lowest main branch! Am I responsible for trimming or should I call LIPA and ask them to come out? ALso it says not to call unless it's an emergency, but if we ever got a bad wind storm and the tree came down the power wire would def be with it.

Call LIPA- they have come to my house to trim the trees by wires (I didn't call- they just showed up)

LIPA is definitely responsible. besides, i would be afraid to have someone else come and trim it, kwim? my parents had the same issue in the front of their house and LIPA came within a day to take care of it.

I contacted LIPA about a tree we planned to take down that had wires alongside it on TWO sides and they said that they wouldn't do anything unless something had actually fallen on the lines.

I said okay, well when you get complaints from my neighborhood that the power is out because the wires were hit when I have someone else take the tree down, have fun with that.

They still didn't care - and it wasn't close enough to the curb to be part of their regular trimming initiatives.

In the end, we hired a company to take it down and nothing happened with the wires anyway!

Call LIPA and you have to be FIRM!!!!

We had a fire in one of our trees during a big storm bc the line was rubbing on the tree.
When I called they gave me a hard time. They said it wasn't an emergency and we would have to do it our self. I literally had to scream and yell...."You mean to tell me having a fire in our tree when we have 2 newborns in the house isn't an emergency...then what is?" she said we had to wait till it happened again...I yelled a little more and they were here the next day!

I will tell you though the first guy that came said we were responsible for paying for the clean up etc. The second guy that came quietly told me that I should complain and refuse to pay anything.

Long story short they took the whole tree down for us and we didn't pay a dime.

Just called them and told them i saw sparks last storm we had, and that the branches were on the wires. They said they'll be sending someone out to trim in a few days, but that we wouod have to clean up.

We will remove the debris that results from our regularly scheduled line clearance program. However, when responding to emergencies or customer requested work the debris is the responsibility of the tree owner.
