Why are people so insensitive and uneducated???

I just lost my father a little over 3 weeks ago. he passed away from liver cancer in a span of 1 month since his initial diagnosis. This month has been the hardest month of my life and rather than feeling better, I feel like I'm more and more sad each day as the reality of it really sets in.

But this is what KILLS me . . . apparently my father has had hepititus B which was passed by birth from his mother. This is what caused the liver cancer. he was born in China where this is vey prevalent and is due to the unsanitary conditions of food and water. The ONLY way you can get it is through s*x & body fluids such as blood. I am 33 years old. I have eaten from the same plate as my father my whole life and cared for me as any father would care for a child. I was tested and am negative for Hep B.

A friend of my DH's had a baby in May. he refuses to see us or have us over until DH gets vaccinated. There is NO WAY he can get hep B from being around us but he insists that he cannot be near us for the health of his child. this is the reason he gave for not coming to my father's funeral and for cancelling plans at our house. At first I chalked it up to new parent anxiety, but as time has passed, I get angrier and angrier each day.

another friend who came to the funeral just found out she was pregnant at the time of the funeral. She miscarried a week later. In not so many words, she wondered if this was due to coming to the funeral. ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

I feel that he thinks my family is "dirty" and "tainted", almost like my father was at fault for getting this disease.

I'm having a hard enough time grieving as is. I don't need these people making me feel bad for my father's condition.

He died from a horrific disease. Something that I wish no one to ever have to go through and all they can think about is themselves.

These 2 people may have lost my friendship forever.

Am I overreacting?

You are absolutely not overreacting and Im so so very sorry about the loss of your father and the loss of your friendships with these ignorant, uneducated people.

I'm truly sorry for your Loss of your Dear Father. you heart must be broken....these friends are being a bit rude.

Move on to new friends!

You are not overreacting at all. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I don't think these are the kind of people you would want to be friends with.
In addition to being ignorant, they sound extremely cold and insensitive.

Ignorant + Incompassionate = not your friend

Send your friends some literature, maybe via e-mail, about HEP B and how it is spread and then inform them again that you are negative. If you do not hear from these people or they continue to act stupid, then yes, it is time to end the friendship.
