Why can't I stop feeling guilty?

The mommy guilt just never goes away, huh? I really wish I could stop the guilt because it eats me up all the time. I don't feel guilty going to work because I know I have to, I have no choice but the be there. But other than being at work, if I'm not devoting all my attention to Ava, I feel this horrible, horrible guilt. It hit me hard tonight because I had to spend an extra 2 hours at work for a meeting, and when we got home, I went straight to cooking dinner, and the whole time, I felt awful that I wasn't spending that time with Ava, even though I knew I needed to make dinner. I try to get her to help in little ways so that we can spend that time together, but jesus, even when I went food shopping without her yesterday, I felt guilty. I just don't know why it won't go away. It eats me up.

part of being a mom is feeling guilty but next time you are at work late, maybe you will be better off just picking up dinner so you don't have to spend your evening in the kitchen

I think mommy guilt is there no matter what we do.
