I'm just curious.

I understand the 'no heavy' lifting rule, but I am slighly confused about the 'no stairs' or driving rules.

my doctor told me 2 weeks

well, I was in the hospital for 4 days and he told me the day I was discharged, so I guess its 2 weeks after the actual c-sec.

Re: Why do you have to wait 6 weeks to drive after a cs?

My very conservative doctor (for first 2 kids) told me 6 weeks. He explained very rudely that if I happened to jam on the brakes my insides could tear or rupture. I then switched doctors and was told 2 weeks by my new dr.

Mine said 6 weeks too....and he said that meant just being in a car as well. He said that god forbid you get into an accident, you don't even want to deal with what could happen to your incision Chat Icon

I went for my incision check up at 2 weeks and thought I shouldn't be driving and the doc was like "you're driving right?" Chat Icon

I drove the day after I came home from the hospital. It was never even a consideration since DH doesn't drive.

But It wasn't for far trips, just around town. I couldn't stand being away from the baby long enough to go very far.

Really? My doctor never said a word about no driving. First time I did was probably when DS was just shy of 2 weeks to go to his ped, had no problems.

If you're comfortable and feeling alright, I'd do what you want but that's just me.

Re: Why do you have to wait 6 weeks to drive after a cs?

I was told no driving for 2 wks and for the reason being if your driving and if you were in an accident the steering wheel is low and would go right into your incision which could open it back up and could lead to something worse.

Re: Why do you have to wait 6 weeks to drive after a cs?

I don't remember my OB telling me anything. When I went for my follow up he said "It's ok to drive now" and I was like "Huh?? I've been driving since a few days after I got out of the hospital!"

He just laughed...

Re: Why do you have to wait 6 weeks to drive after a cs?

I was told 2 weeks. She said it was because you use your ab muscles for more than you know and if you had to respond to something quickly as a driver, you would not have the same ability to jerk the steering wheel or something like that. Your response time would be lowered and it could be dangerous.

I obeyed. I hate driving so I enjoyed every minute of having a chaufuer.
