Why does he LOVE milk in the bottle - but not the sippy?
You would think I was giving him tomato juice or something horrific.
He just started drinking out of a straw sippy and he seems to love it for water and juice. I just tried to put his milk in it - and the face is priceless. Like he cannot believe I am giving him this stuff.
What is the deal? Will he get used to it? Should I just give in a give him a bottle or make him sweat it out?

So does Jack - he LOVES them. If he sees other kids with a bottle he flips out.
My ped actually said I shouldn't worry about taking the bottle away from him if he's comfortable with it - but I would love for this afternoon milk to be in a sippy - especially for convenience purposes!

I think I have that one - I have to check!
ETA: But now back to the old debate - don't they say it's better to be on straw sippys than regular? I can't keep up I swear!

That is the only sippy cup he would use and eventually he was able to use other sippy cups...

It is hard for me too since he is at daycare--I want to try to make the afternoon bottle a sippy but I want to be there when it happens--i literally dread this transition
He is an awesome baby--sleeps great, no paci---i am sad that I am pushing him on the one thing he loves
my ped said by 2 years old is early enough

He has a sippy that he uses all day long - I've tried milk in it - he throws it on the floor.
Just today he learned to drink from a straw at breakfast with my mom. I came home gave him a straw sippy with water - he drank the entire thing in minutes. I filled the same one with milk - and he looks at me like I have 12 heads.

same here - Jack doesn't take a paci or really have anything that comforts him - besides the bottle.

Re: Why does he LOVE milk in the bottle - but not the sippy?
DD is the same way. She drinks water all through the day in her sippy.(she uses the Nuby spout one too)
When I try to give her milk in the sippy she won't really drink it. She'll take a few sips here and there but not really drink it.

I tried this and every other sippy known to man and nothing worked. I let DS keep the bottle until he was 2 and now he id 25 mos and still will not drink milk. Ped says as long as he eats cereal w/milk, yogurt and cheese (or whatever other calcium rich foods he will eat) then its ok.

My fiend a speech therapist did tell me the straw is better for speach development etc, but who knows, tomorrow they'll tell you the opposite.

Re: Why does he LOVE milk in the bottle - but not the sippy?
It's always something! Thomas has been off the bottle for a while, but loves the paci!
I think it's the association that milk belongs in a bottle and not in a cup because that's how he's always had it.
Thomas is not and was not a big milk drinker from the bottle or the cup. He's gotten better, but he still doesn't drink much milk - no matter what it is in!
The straw cups are supposed to be better for speech and oral development and for their teeth. The sugar in milk and juice go right to the back of their front teeth with a sippy cup. My ped said straw cups are better but they are hard at this age because they leak. Thomas has finally learned to drink great out of a straw, but he doesn't know not to leave it turned upside down on the carpet or in his carseat, etc. I bought all new straw cups, found ones I like the best and then stopped using them becuase he can't be left with one without CONSTANT supervision (can't give in the car, etc.). Ped said the sippys are fine for now for convenience. She said that's why they are made, just for convenience and less mess. Before they made sippys, kids just drank out of a regular cup and made a mess! I think I'll wait a couple more months and then give straw cups again, when he understands more not to let it turn upside down.
Good luck!

Re: Why does he LOVE milk in the bottle - but not the sippy?
Same here, DD won't take milk from a sippy. And like you said, I don't feel like pushing her b/c that's her "comfort" thing. She pounds water out of the sippy all day but flat-out refuses milk in one.
Hopefully soon she'll just accept it.

Re: Why does he LOVE milk in the bottle - but not the sippy?
my ped suggested I add ovaltine.
Well, he started taking milk from sippy, but now he rejects it if there's no ovaltine in the milk.

Benjamin is the same way. He'll try a sippy cup once and then not want it again. I tried the one with the straw but he just throws it on the floor.

He loves it because you are letting him love it Throw the bottles away and he will very quickly realize he won't get milk if he doesn't drink it out of the cup. Trust me, it works.

Re: Why does he LOVE milk in the bottle - but not the sippy?
If he JUST started with the sippy, I would letthe transition to milk in a sippy take more time.
Thats a lot at once.
And maybe just supplement the bottles with a little bit of milk during the day and then once hes used to the milk in the sippys, try cutting one bottle...and so on. Thats what we plan to do. Noahs really only on one , one and half bottles though so its a bit different. His night time one he LOVES.

Even reading that sentence made me cringe

Re: Why does he LOVE milk in the bottle - but not the sippy?
Same with my son...but I just stopped the bottle, and gave him the sippy...first couple of days, he didnt drink much...now he drinks most of it....but it takes him FOREVER to drink it!
ETA--My son always drank his water either from a cup with a straw, or from the nuby soft spout one...when I went to milk I gave him the First Year ones because he sees all of his older friends with it...and he wouldnt take it from the others for some reason....
It truly is trial and error!!!
