why would the ped say nothing but rice cereal before 6 mths?
DD is constipated and some people suggested I switch to oatmeal but she's only 5 mths so the nurse at the office told me they don't want babies under 6 mths to have any other cereal besides rice!

no idea - maybe call them back and ask them
by six months my son had all three cereals and was already onto fruits and veggies I believe!

strange because chelsea had constipation issues and our ped told us to stay away from rice because it is binding...

i hope thats not true bc im about to start DD on cereal and i was gonna go straight to oatmeal. her stools are already hard as it is.

Same here, and my DS primarily ate oatmeal from about 5 months on because he preferred it to the others.

it is weird b/c of the constipation he wouldn't tell you to switch but I think maybe he doesn't want to expose him to the others yet for fear of allergies. I think the others have more of a chance then the rice.

Well, starting solids before 6 months can cause diabetes later in life, obesity and food allergies so maybe that's why they say only rice? Although that's a solid too, so I'm not really sure.
When DD was constipated, I gave her a couple of ounces of plain water in a bottle and that did the trick.
