...why restrain your baby in a carseat and then leave them unrestrained in the cart?? Soooo dangerous and it seems like everyone I see with an infant has them like this in the shopping cart.

What if the carseat was in the bottom of the wagon? It's not restrained. Is a bag of frozen peas gonna jump up and give them frostbite?Chat Icon

I'm pretty sure she means in the top of the cart. I wouldn't say it drives me crazy when I see people do it but it makes me nervous as heck for the baby. They can so easily do a header onto the tile floor if the cart is bumped. Many times I've piled groceries around an infant seat in the back. I never mastered the cart/stroller thing. Cathy, I'm impressed you can do it with a double stroller!

That is what I meant. Drives me crazy may have been the wrong phrase...it definately makes me nervous.

What drives me crazy is when parents put the infant seat in the front of the shopping cart(the seat part) by hooking it over that little dip in the carseat....I keep getting visions of someone bumping the cart and the carseat going flying....why restrain your baby in a carseat and then leave them unrestrained in the cart?? Soooo dangerous and it seems like everyone I see with an infant has them like this in the shopping cart.

What do you propose be done? How do parents go shopping?

Im not sayng its easy, thats for sure. Sometimes I put DD in the carseat in the back part of the wagon and put the groceries on the seat part. But I cant get too much, so alot of time DH goes on his days off or we go together so that he can wheel the cart and I can do the carriage.

Defensive much?? Obviously the bottom of the wagon is enclosed so they cant fall like on the top of the wagon. And as far as the implication that I am overprotective (frozen peas biting them with an eye roll), you can feel as you like, but I am doing the best I can to keep my baby safe. Honestly I think this is a no-brainer, not overprotectiveness, just common sense...carts get bumped while you reach to get an item on the shelf, baby isnt secured...seems pretty logical to me.

Some people just don't think! That poor baby is now paying for having a brainless mother!Chat Icon

I guess I don't think either and am brainless. It must be hard being a perfect mom like yourself.

Not at all saying I am perfect. I guess I pictured the little girl jumping around & the mother not paying much attention. Didn't at all mean my comment the way it apparently came out.Chat Icon

Roman is 2 1/2 and he sits in the wagon when we go shopping. I see nothing wrong with it if the child is sitting and being supervised. I usually will bring something to occupy him or he just sits and stacks the food.

same with Aly...she refuses to sit in the front seat strapped in so she SITS in the wagon. Its the only way to get any shopping done with her.

I put my two year old son in the back of the cart. I make sure that he is sitting down. I have to do this because I also have a four month old in a baby carrier. Most of the time I let him walk but if he's in a running off type of mood then I have to put him in the cart.

I'm sure that the mother was freaking out and felt guilty so she lashed out.

I do have to say that I will not move the cart until DS is sitting on his tushy though.

Is it just me or has this turned into the silliest argument??We are moms and the last thing we need is to judge each other. Honestly who really cares where someone puts their kid while they shop??? Some of the new carts have metal cup holders that can poke your kids eye out while they are in the seat. It's called supervision plain and simple....

Please ladies! Do what's best and safest for you! When I have my 2 with me, I put my younger one in the seat, and sometimes my son will go in the wagon part or I actually let him ride on the back *gasp* There's been a few times he's slipped while I'm pushing and I've nearly run his legs over, but he's lived to tell about it. It's the only way I can get things done when I have 2 of them with me - always!
