I agree except about the exemption of children, but that’s another topic, so...

Is it another topic? Most of us on this board have children. Children under 10 do not really seem to exhibit any symptoms of COVID and if they do they are extremely mild. They are not at risk when they do get Covid and from what I understand it is still not definitive that they transmit it often. If they are not at risk and they are not super spreaders I do not see why it would be necessary to get this vaccine. Like a flu vaccine this will not provide lifelong immunity. There is no reason for children to be taking the vaccine year after year until they reach the age where they can get and spread the virus which I believe is typically over 10. I do think that teenagers should get it, because they do seem to get and spread it. Maybe I should have clarified what I meant by "children." I would be curious as to why you think they should get it, but frankly if you have never been a parent I think it's hard to relate to why you would not want to give your very young child a very new vaccine.

I do think it is another topic. It has already kind of veered off topic about the older population being guinea pigs.

In addition, the OP stated no debate, and I know the OP’s stance on vaccines from posts a few years ago.

My children are an extension of me so when someone asks me if I would get the vaccine, I immediately also consider if I would let my children get the vaccine. I do not expect you to be able to relate to that as a non parent. Not being snarky, just based on your other posts you do not seem to be able to relate to being a parent.

ETA: I also think it's a little silly to put "no debate" on a chat board.

Wow, really? I don’t want to comment because maybe I learned something. Maybe I’m busy. Maybe I don’t feel like debating. Maybe I am enjoying a day off after a hard few weeks of work.

And now that I won’t, I get an eye roll? What is WRONG with you?

@lululu
You’re right I am not a parent and I don’t want to be. But that doesn’t mean that I cannot feel empathy for the rest of society and concerns for my family. Not being snarky, really.

Lately I feel like people are ready to jump down others throats at the drop of a hat.

Maybe KlingKlang has said some offensive things in the past (as have many other posters), but in this particular
post, she brought up some valid points and in no way said anything offensive.

I have two children, but as someone who went through years of fertility treatments, I absolutely loathe when parents get smug to non-parents. Having children does not make an individual a superior human being. Donald Trump has 4 kids and I wouldn't consider him an expert on morality and parenting.

People may have different experiences, but that does not mean that they have inability to feel empathy for other individuals. Empathy and kindness are severely lacking this year in particular. 2020 has been a tremendously difficult year for everyone. We don't need to add to the chaos by attacking anyone and everyone.

In the case of this particular person, I do think that she has shown that she cannot show empathy towards parents. I am not getting smug. I think that her feelings that children should get the vaccine are largely influenced by the fact that she has no children and has trouble relating to what it is actually like to parent a child. I also would hardly say I am jumping down her throat.

Excuse me? I absolutely can show empathy towards parents. That’s why I didn’t want to have children. I chose not to have them because I was afraid if something were to go wrong, I wouldn’t be able to deal with it. So, yes, there is so much empathy that I understand I did not want that for myself.

And, no, I do not regret my choice.

I teach young adults. That might be your child someday. I am with them at that stage in their life when they have to really learn to be independent. Right now they aren’t on campus right now, and the campuses are different here and spread out all over the city. Getting lost on the first day and they can’t find their class, a panicked student somehow wound up in my office asking for help. The student with a learning disability who has to now deal with it in the real world without her parents who came up to me afraid to show me her letter of permission she got from the university that she has a learning disability and she’s allowed extra time for exams... I see that all.

I may not be with young children, but there are other adults that will be with your child in different stages of their life. Please don’t tell me I have no empathy.

Oh pulease. You attacked parents that they should have been prepared for a pandemic when they had children and then told me to go to hell and to die. Real empathy you have. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn’t attack parents. If you read above my reasoning for not having children in case something were to go wrong, you would understand. It is something I thought of. It was based on my experiences, that’s all. Nothing wrong with stating my experiences. One of the first things I thought of when this lockdown started was, thank god I didn’t have kids. This whole situation has to really suck for them. I would not be able to handle that.

As to your latter comments, you said such things as I have problems, etc. You are pretty defensive yourself, so this should be something you understand, no?

Do you have short term memory issues as you had a lot of people upset over what you said? You told parents that they should be prepared for things like pandemics, something NO ONE would have imagined would have happened when they chose to get pregnant.

I am not going back and forth with you. Everyone on this board is well aware.

Yes, a major crisis, such as a pandemic, was something I thought of. And I prepared for it. By not having kids. Not saying that is what they should have done (not have kids).

There you go again accusing me of memory problems or something.

I am not going back and forth either. Have a nice evening.

Since you want to act like everything is all good now...these are a few snippets of what you said:

Sorry, but did people not think of everything before they had kids? Or did everyone think that everything would be roses?

Of course, people did not think of a pandemic. But seriously you had to have thought of other scenarios before you had kids.

Fine, joke about it. But some are really serious about this. It isn’t insensitive at all. I’m really tired of hearing how parents are annoyed by their kids. You made the decision to have them. Now deal with it.

Not hostile at all. And, yes, I get frustrated. Shame you can’t see that I’m frustrated by hearing parents complain. Take your own advice.

Don’t you have something better to do with your time? Like homeschool your children or not let them get vaccines? See you next Tuesday!

Sorry, but I don’t think it sounds off. It gets really annoying that people complain that they have to homeschool and they are with their kids all day, etc. Or complaints about how teachers should be laid off and people don’t want to pay school taxes. There may be some people on these boards who can’t have kids and this is just an annoying reminder. I’m not one of those people, but I don’t have kids by choice. This used to be the Not Family Related board. It now has tons of things about kids. Doesn’t anybody have anything to talk about besides their kids? Another board I’m on puts an @ symbol in the title, so you know.

And you (general) aren't homeschooling. You are doing work with your kids. You aren't doing lesson plans.

Parents on this board are referring to the posts several months ago where you attacked us for not being prepared. In all honesty, you did go hard on a post that was really for fun and a joke. Its hard for people to let that go, so that is why it keeps coming back. Just adding my two cents.

On this thread - I personally do not think you attacked parents nor do I think Lulu went after you for not being a parent either.

Funny how you know about that since you clain to have not been on LIF then????????????????????????????????????????Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It is a chat board. That’s what people do! Chat about things. It is really not appropriate to put a question on a chat board and then say please don’t discuss it thou. Please take my quiz but I don’t want you to write anything! Why bother?!?!?!

It's a free country, I don't care who debates what honestly.
But I just found it funny and ironic that its 5 pages in and the debate has changed into an unrelated fight between 2 posters and morphed into something else completely!

Yeah, I know what they are referring to. VB took the time to dig up my posts Chat Icon .

I did go hard on a post. I was at a very different stage in the pandemic at that point. I can see why people would be upset. I meant no harm by it, truly.

I don’t think lululu went after me either. She said no snark, so fine. I swear we need a ‘no snark’ emoji on these boards. Tone totally gets lost.

Re: will you take the new covid vaccine ?

I don't think anyone on here (unless I missed it) has said that they think a vaccine will be like a light switch.

I think we all understand that things will take a long time to get close to where we were a year ago.

For me, the vaccine news (along with other recent news I need not detail) just feels like a light at the end of the tunnel and I feel like I can start thinking about things that felt too far away a few months ago.

Also, we plan most of our vacations pretty far in advance, for a few reasons, so it's not unreasonable for me to start thinking about Feb break 2022 the prior spring anyway.

In all fairness, that wasn’t the only post, there were several. I can understand why u were acting like that cause this pandemic has impacted us all in so many levels. But sometimes a simple apology can go far and might make things better. I’m glad u’re not attacking anymore, u seem to be in a better place.

She just said veterans caused WW2.

Valentines baby, we are not friends but you forgot to bring up the klingklang post of her telling me my husband should not sleep in our bed due to covid social distancing. She also said parents should not be near their young kids. WTF? VB I have to agree with you here.

Klingklang, you need help and you won’t find it here. We are not professionals and you have angered and alienated most of us, so you aren’t going to get the friendship treatment either. You are very offensive with your posts. I know you will come back at me angrily but maybe some self reflection would be a better choice - your hostility gets you nowhere.

OP - now that it’s known these 2 vaccines were not influenced by warp speed or the president, yes I would get one for me and my family. I believe in science and I want this to be over.

No way in hell would I have put trump juice in my veins. If he had anything to do with bypassing testing or safety protocols then it would be a hard no.

I don’t think young healthy people will have an option for awhile. I’d assume they would start with front line workers, elderly, sick, etc. first so I assume I’m back of the line.

2. There is a pandemic and that was said at the beginning of the pandemic. No one knew what was happening.

The search tool is very easy to use. Not sure how you consider it stalking to prove things you have said in the past.
Doesn’t matter how you want to spin this, you were nasty to people and just like the OP said, if you really feel bad, an apology goes a long way. You haven’t done that so how do we know you are sincere?

Geez, enough of the back and forth. If you don't like someone, there's no need to comment on every. single. one. of. their. posts. Nobody cares and you're just coming off looking unhinged. Let's leave prior spats behind us, this board is becoming increasingly hostile and it's unwelcoming to real, meaningful discussion and debate.
