Will your pediatrician get on the phone and answer your questions?

I tend to expect a lot out of these people, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

The triage nurses are always really nice, helpful, get back to me quickly. But this time around I want to talk to the dr.

Josh has a second h1n1 shot coming up. But he also had a reaction to first shot...so I don't know what to do. His reaction was "normal" muscle soreness, could not walk, fever...I really need him to get the booster though, I am becoming neurotic and want to do the right thing.

Do you think I should just make an appt and speak with dr?

Appt for shot is Nov 30...so I am running out of time.

I usually call, leave a message for the doctor and then she calls me back when she has a chance. So, I do speak with her directly, which makes me happy.
Can you call and request to speak directly to the doctor and let them know why?

usually we dont get to talk to the doc either, which i guess i understand why, but it still frustrates me

One of my drs (there are 4) always gets on the phone, and usually right then when I call.

I would call & speak to the pediatrician. I know my pediatrican gets on the phone for questions but he may be the exception (I hope not!)

thanks, put a call in 2 days ago...nurse called me back and I asked her if I could speak with dr.

I was really nice...but haven't heard back.

dh is onboard now with booster...so we are leaning towards yes. just want confirmation from someone who went to med school.

Yes, I will call and leave a message for him with the nurses and he always calls me back.

Then again, he called us on a Sat morning to see how they were doing because we had an H1N1 scare the previous day.

i love my ped. he either gets on the phone with me when i call or if hes with a patient i get a call as soon as hes done.

yes, he will call me back after office hours so generally around dinner time.

no they usually want you to talk to the nurses.

thanks!! its a large practice, I don't care which dr calls me back. I am going to call tomorrow, then make an appointment...with a freaking co-pay

My ped always calls me back when I have even the silliest of questions - within minutes too!

Thus far I have always gotten a call back from one of the 3 peds in the practice. We'll see what happens when I call tomorrow as an issue arose today that I need to discuss.

My ped will answer questions. However, my OB/GYN's office uses a nurse's line. I got used to it and I find that they give very valid information that I am usually fine with.

My ped will always return a call. If I call in the middle of the day, it's usually at the end of the day, after hours, when they call back, but they always call back the same day. The two times I called regarding something on the more important side, although not urgent, they called back within a 1/2 hour.

I'd call and say you need to speak to a doctor today, even if after hours.

My doc always returns calls. They even have a "telephone hour" in the mornings where you call and one of the doctors in the practice (there are 3 and a PA) answers the phone directly.

Immediately...no but if I ask for the doctor that's who calls me back. I would be annoyed if that's not how the office worked.
Typically the nurses are fine but if I want the then that's who I want.

I have DD's Ped cell phone number.

I work HR in the hosp he is affiliated with so I guess he thinks I do him a favor he'll do me a favor

I have never spoken to a doctor (always the triage nurse) but I have never requested to either so I don't know what would happen if I did request to speak to one of them

yes - they do. We're with a family practice and when i call for myself they call me back eventually - but once I say emma's name - i get a call back within 15 minutes!

depends on the situation...

if i call and asked to be called back by a specific dr., he will do so by end of day. if i need a question answered on the spot then i will speak to any dr. available at the time. but i don't think i've ever had a situation that needed to be answered on the spot, except for a vomiting spree that happened overnight and the on call dr. called me back within minutes.
