Wine / champagne question

I know this question has been asked before, but I just want to get your opinions. Today is my 1 year anniversary. My DH and I got married at town hall a year ago today (our "wedding" was on 9/27). So, my DH asked if after we go out to dinner tonight if I would like to have a glass or wine or champagne. I am only 26 weeks and not really sure I should. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE a glass...

What would you do?

Re: Wine / champagne question

I don't have any alcohol while pregnant so I would decline.

Re: Wine / champagne question

I have had about a glass a week throughout my pregnancy. So I would say of course do what makes you comfortable, but it's perfectly safe. I would enjoy myself!

Re: Wine / champagne question

if you want a glass of wine on your anniversary, i say absolutely DO IT!

in other cultures alcohol with moderation is totally acceptable in pregnancy... and those places do NOT have higher rates of fetal complications associated with alcohol. our society just happens to be obsessed with all of these "rules" for pregnant women... which is overkill, in my opinion.

i drank a glass of wine or beer here and there during my first pregnancy (probably around one a month) and my son is PERFECT Chat Icon Chat Icon

this time around i also have an occasional beer when i'm craving it. i don't worry about it in the least.

If you are comfortable with it, go ahead. Personally I am a "better safe than sorry" gal so you can always go for sparkling cider.

Re: Wine / champagne question

Personally, I am not having ANY alcohol throughout this pregnancy. I have a million weddings coming up to go to and as much as I am DYING to have a glass of champagne/wine, I am holding off.

God forbid anything were to be wrong with my son, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself thinking that it could have been the alcohol.

I know that many doctors say that a glass here and there is OK, but to me, I'll just wait out the rest of the 18 weeks I have left.

Re: Wine / champagne question

It is totally a matter of opinion, I would say have it. I had 1/2 a glass of wine on mother's day with the family and I didn't even finish the 1/2.

Re: Wine / champagne question

i personally think this is one of those - go with your gut feelings..... if you & DH are okay with it - GO FOR IT....it not - or you think you will regret it at ANY point, then don't....

it's all about where you are mentally....with the GD - a bagel is TABOO (makes your number SKY-ROCKET)... I'll be honest - i had two last week and they made me happier than the blood sugar number could EVER make me.... Did it do any damage? I'm 99.9% positive it didn't....but if i thought for one second it might - then i wouldn't have done it - ya know????

Re: Wine / champagne question

I'd say go for it, having 1/2 a glass or 1 glass, the BAC level will be so dilute before it reaches the baby.

I had a glass of champagne on my 30th b-day and I was 14weeks. I also have had a sip of beer here and there throughout the pregnancy.

Thanks girls... I really appreciate the feedback. I think for tonight, instead of having a glass of wine, I will have a nice hunk of chocolate cake for dessert!!!!! Chat Icon

Re: Wine / champagne question

If you would like to - then have it! 1 glass is fine - especially wine....

I know this sounds so "mom" but what about a "spritzer".... a little wine, and more seltzer.

Kind of tricks you into thinking you had the real deal....

IMO - If I wanted it - I wouldChat Icon

I agree too! I haven't had a thing, but my sister had a glass here and there and my nieces and nephews all tired out fine. to each his/her own.

BTW.. today is my anniversary too!! Chat Icon Although I'll probably have sparkling cider that we bought and I also like a sprite with a splash of cranberry when I go out so it looks like I have a drink Chat Icon

I've avoided alcohol this whole pregnancy. I know its fine to have a glass here or there but I'm just more comfortable avoiding it altogether. Hapy Anniversary!!!

Re: Wine / champagne question

Well with DD I skipped it completely - this time around it was my 5 year anniversary recently - I asked my OB his opinion and he told me to have a whole glass. I honestly wasn't comfortable with that - but I did want to do a toast for good luck - so we got a small individual bottle and I had 2 sips. It was enough to toast but not enough to make me nervous or feel like I was doing something harmful. Dh finished the rest on his own. Chat Icon

I had a split of champagne on my anniversary and a glass of red wine on both my birthday and Valentine's Day.

Re: Wine / champagne question

I have not had a full glass of alcohol my entire pregnancy. I did however have 3 sips of a margarita on my 30th birthday. I also will every once in a while, take a sip of DH's wine just for the taste. (I'm a wannabe wine snob and honestly, I miss enjoying a good glass of wine.)

If it were me, I'd have a few sips.

I had a glass on Saturday (It was my birthday), but I asked for a glass of water and ice and watered it down . My doctor says a glass is fine now and then, especially wine. No hard alcohol!

Re: Wine / champagne question

I've had a glass of wine and a mimosa here and there...
There is no evidence that an occasional glass of wine/champagne/beer will harm the baby...it's regular drinking that does damage.

Re: Wine / champagne question

I've had a glass of wine or a beer once a month since I got pregnant.

In other countries its perfectly normal and acceptable to drink even once a week. And as PP said, there is no hard evidence that occasional drinking causes any damage to the baby. My doctor told me it was fine to have a drink as often as every 3 weeks. And many doctors will actually tell you to have a glass of wine if you're contracting prematurely.

Honestly, I say go for it!!!
