Winthrop Visiting Hours
Recently there was a post stating that Winthrop had extended their visiting hours to all day(10-8 or something like that) for general visitors...but I was just reading their website and it said:
VISITING HOURS Fathers: 9 am - 10 pm Grandparents & Siblings 2 pm - 4 pm General Public & Siblings 6:30 pm - 8 pm (The babies will be in the Nursery during this visiting period.)
Does anyone know their recent policy? I would much prefer what they have written on their website, for I'm sure new moms need their rest, as well as not listening to their roommates visitors all day, or people running through the halls....Let me know about your recent experiences with this. Thanks!

Re: Winthrop Visiting Hours
When I had Ryan they had just extended the hours to something like 12-8 - ALL DAY basically (which IMO stinks!). The baby is in your room during most of this time and people can come and go as they please - it's very difficult to rest. Ryan ended up being in the NICU so that actually protected him from being subjected to non-stop visitors. I spoke to some of the nurses about it and they all seemed to disagree with the new policy and found it to defeat the purpose of a mom being in the hospital to rest.

Re: Winthrop Visiting Hours
There website isn't updated. If you call them, they give you the updated info. I am so not looking forward to having guests in and out all day long. I think they do bring the babies back to the nursery between 6pm-8pm still.

Yes, babies are still in the nursery during that small window.

Re: Winthrop Visiting Hours
DH and I have actually decided that we practically have to get a private room, because there is no way we are fitting in a double room, with our two bassinets, guests, my roommates bassinet and her guests.

Re: Winthrop Visiting Hours
this just made me check Lenox Hill's hours. they are 11 to 8!! That seems kind of crazy to me. How is a new Mom supposed to rest?

These hours started in March. Not really sure why they changed it. Perhaps too many people complained the previous hours were too strict. Hopefully if enough people complain they'll change it back.

Lets start complaining !!! Or I guess I'm going to have to dish out for a private room too...this policy is soooo weird...how are you supposed to rest and bond with your baby...in the middle of the night??

I don't think they'll get enough complaints to change them back by the 23rd of October...

I told DH I want a private room this time if we can, because I am NOT thrilled about the number of people that will be coming in & out of the room

Re: Winthrop Visiting Hours
You could just tell your friends/family that you don't want any visitors. Or limit them yourself from 6-8.
I actually always thought there old policy was weird. Being from CT all of my friends had the babies in the rooms and anyone could visit. When I had DS I told my friends to just wait till we got home since they couldn't see him, but with #2 not so sure. As for the resting, maybe I am the minority, I don't rest in the hospital anyway. Someone is always coming in.

The problem is that you cannot tell your room mates what do do...... I had a C-section last time and was in for 5 days. This time I will also have a c-section and let me tell you I need to rest the first 2 days. My family left me pretty much alone & just visited DS in the nursery, but the same cannot be said for my roomie, who had 12 - 14 people in the room all day long when it was against policy. It was awful.

Re: Winthrop Visiting Hours
I might be delivering there this time around.. the baby really has to be in the nursery during visiting hours? Does the fathers visit count in that? I also wonder if my dd could come with my dh during those hours?

Re: Winthrop Visiting Hours
I do not like the new policy at all.
I had a private room except the 1st night. I had a c-section and was BFing. I was exhausted. I wanted to rest.
The 1st night with the roomate was a nightmare. I was having terrible problems with the catheter and was in pain. I was trying to rest and relax from the pain and she had 6-7 people in the room.
I also do not want DS exposed to people breathing on him just feet away.
So in essence with their new policy I would have to keep DC in the nursery. But with a c-section, that also mean I cannot be with DC.
This is a terrible policy.
Especially since they have VERY limited private rooms and it's 1st come 1st serve.

I have already called. And I am also going to mention it to the nurses when I go see Dr H next week. 2 of them work in L & D and maybe they can help us spread the word.
