Re: Wiping Baby's Butt--Dr told me not to use Wipes

When Emily was very young she used to get a lot of rashes --- so I used baby washcloths with water and a little bit of baby soap. I did this for a few weeks, but then we got past the stage where she'd get the bad rashes, and I discovered boudreax's butt paste...so I moved onto Huggies Wipes from there, which I think are very soft and mild.

The hospital told me the same thing, but I used Pampers baby fresh wipes from day 1. I switched to sensitive, scent free now but only because I don't like the scent of the baby fresh ones.

She was fine.

Dr. gave me the go ahead when we left the hospital. I used sensitive, and still do, never had a problem.

I was told to only use wipes when there is poop otherwise use nothing.

but then how do you clean the urine off them???

I don't wipe DD when she pees in her diaper. The diapers do a pretty good job of absorbing it all, so she is dry.

even after she has been in a peepee diaper overnight?? the smell alone makes me want to gag........DDs tushy is wet after all night what diapers do YOU use??

Why shouldn't/wouldn't you use wipes? I used wipes from day 1 and he was fine. I would think a baby would be more prone to get diaper rashes and things if you dont use wipes.

I suspect it's because wipes have alcohol which is drying to the skin. I noticed the sensitive wipes don't have it.

urine is sterile, I do nto use wipes when she pees either....I just let her air dry or wipe her gently with a cloth if she is "wet"

My hospital and Dr told me that also, so I used paper towels damp for the first month and now I use pampers sensitive wipes.

I used wipes from day one. I had DH pack them for the hospital, and they never told me I couldnt use them, and her ped. never said anything.
